Alief neighbors say heavy trash is piling up alongside illegal dumping in neighborhood

Heavy Trash Piles Up in Alief Neighborhood Amidst Illicit Dumping

Residents of a Houston neighborhood are fed up with the mounting trash and illicit dumping that's become an eyesore on their community. The problem began as heavy, uncollected waste but has since escalated into people indiscriminately dumping everything from furniture to household items.

For decades, one resident, Kurt Von Ogden, has called Fifth Street near Kirkwood home without ever experiencing this issue before. However, over the past six months, he's witnessed a growing pile of trash that seems to be getting out of hand. Neighbors have tried to report the problem to city officials, but so far, they've received no response.

In a recent confrontation, Von Ogden caught a man attempting to dump chairs onto the pile in the early hours of the morning. "It's not how it makes me feel; it's how other people look at this city," he said, expressing frustration and concern that such behavior reflects poorly on the community.

Von Ogden feels that the city has failed to address the issue adequately, leaving him with no choice but to take matters into his own hands. "I felt like telling the city, 'If you don't get out of here and do this, we're going to have one big bonfire,'" he warned, highlighting the potential for a major disaster if left unchecked.

The neighborhood is now united in their demand for action from local authorities. As Von Ogden pointed out, the problem isn't just about aesthetics; it's also a matter of civic responsibility and accountability. Neighbors expect the city to take responsibility for maintaining public spaces and addressing community concerns in a timely manner.

With no response yet from the city, the residents of this Alief neighborhood are left to wonder when they'll see improvements. As one resident noted, "It ain't no excuse for six months."

Ugh 🤯, this is getting outta hand... heavy trash piles up in just 6 months? that's crazy! I mean, I've seen some ugly stuff online but this is real life, folks. These residents are fed up and rightfully so - who wants to look at a giant pile of trash all day? The city needs to step up their game and take responsibility for maintaining public spaces. It's not just about aesthetics, it's about civic pride and accountability 🚮💔

😔 I'm so sorry to hear that you're living through this, Kurt! 🤕 It's absolutely unacceptable that your community is being neglected like this. The fact that the city hasn't responded to your reports and is now ignoring the issue is just frustrating and heartbreaking. 🙄 You and your neighbors are right to be fed up and demanding action from local authorities.

I can imagine how disheartening it must feel to see a neighborhood you love become an eyesore due to human negligence. The potential for a big bonfire is terrifying, and it's only because of residents like you taking matters into their own hands that things might get better. 💪

Please know that you're not alone in this fight, Kurt! There are people who care about your community and want to see change happen. Keep pushing for answers and accountability from the city, and don't lose hope – there's always a chance for positive change to occur. 🌞

OMG 🤯 I'm literally livin' in the world right now where trash piles up in neighborhoods and ppl just dont care!!! It's like, what's goin on?! We need to get our gov to take action ASAP! Kurt Von Ogden sounds like a total boss for takin matters into his own hands though 🤝. I feel him when he says the city has failed to address this issue - it's not just about lookin pretty, it's about doin what's right and keepin our community safe. Let's get those authorities to step up their game and clean up this mess!!! 💪🏽👍

man... its like they're trying to cover something up 🤔.. i mean, what's really going on with all this trash? is it some kinda scam or somethin' the city don't wanna deal with? and von ogden's right, if the city can't even keep track of garbage collection, how are we supposed to trust them with other important stuff? its like they're prioritizin' one thing over another... maybe there's a bigger agenda here that we ain't seein'.

I'm getting so sick of all these trash piles up everywhere... remember when we used to have our neighborhoods clean and well-maintained? My grandma's old neighbourhood in the '60s was spotless! 🙄 Nowadays it's like nobody cares, people just dump their junk anywhere. I've seen people throw away whole sofas on the side of the road without even checking if there are recyclables or not. It's just gross.

I'm starting to think that these new smart trash cans and recycling programs from back in the '20s were a great idea. Maybe we need to go back to those days where everyone takes care of their own community... it's like my grandpa used to say, "If you want something done right, do it yourself!" 😊

omg u guys i feel so bad 4 this alief neighborhood its like every1s trying 2 throw away their trash & furniture anywhere but theyre not getting taken care of by the city its not fair 2 them & it reflects badly on our community as kurt von ogden said we need 2 demand action from the authorities now w8in 4 a long time is 2 much its like theyre saying ok 6 mos we dont care about ur problems u just deal wit it

i think the city should send more ppl 2 clean up this mess & make sure it gets done ASAP they cant just ignore it like thats gonna fix everythin maybe if we start a petition or somethin we can get their attention

Ugh, I'm literally so fed up with people who don't care about their community! 🤯 I mean, come on Kurt Von Ogden's had enough of the trash piling up and nobody does anything about it. It's not just about looks, it's about basic human decency. And now this guy's even caught someone dumping chairs at 3 am? That's just insane.

I'm so tired of people saying "it's no big deal" or "there's nothing you can do". Well, newsflash: there is something you can do! You can speak up, report it, and demand action from your city officials. And if that doesn't work, then maybe you need to take matters into your own hands like Kurt did.

Six months of inaction is just unacceptable. I mean, what kind of community just lets this happen? It's a huge eyesore and a reflection of the city's priorities. We deserve better than that. The neighborhood's coming together now, but it should have been doing that weeks ago. 🤦‍♀️ I just hope something changes soon before things get out of hand... maybe a massive bonfire will be the wake-up call everyone needs 😬

Ugh, this is so frustrating 🤯🚮 I mean, who just leaves trash all over their neighborhood? It's not like it's a small thing, it's affecting the whole community. And what's really sad is that people are getting tired of waiting for the city to do something about it. I get it, they're busy and stuff, but six months is just too long 🤦‍♂️

And you know what really gets me? The fact that someone has to call out another person for dumping trash in the middle of the night 🕰️. It's not like people are trying to be malicious or anything, they're just lazy and don't care about the community anymore.

The city needs to step up their game and start taking responsibility for maintaining public spaces 🚮💪. The fact that residents have to take matters into their own hands is a major red flag 🔥. We need change, and we need it now ⏰.

Ugh 🤯 I mean like, what's going on with Houston man?! They can't even keep their own streets clean? 🚮😡 Kurt Von Ogden is totally right, the city needs to step up and take care of this ASAP. It's not just a little trash pile, it's a major issue that reflects poorly on the whole community 🤦‍♂️. And can you believe they haven't responded to all these complaints? Unbelievable 😒. We need some real action from our city leaders here. Maybe a cleanup initiative or some surveillance cameras to catch those illicit dumpers in the act 📸. It's time for change, Houston! 💪
