14 hospitalized after METRO bus flips in crash with vehicle on SH-288 at McGowen: METRO officials

At Least 14 People Injured in Metrotown Bus Crash on Highway 288 Overpass

A Metrotown bus was involved in a serious accident Saturday afternoon, leaving at least 14 people injured, according to officials. The incident occurred when the bus operating on Route 54, carrying 13 passengers and one driver, collided with another vehicle while traveling on McGowen Street overpass for Highway 288.

Eyewitnesses claim that the bus was hit from behind by another vehicle before it went off the bridge. Houston Fire Department (HFD) Captain Mario Gordon described the scene as "one of the more difficult rescues" they had handled, but praised the bravery and quick thinking of his team in saving all passengers without incident.

Miraculously, only minor injuries were reported among the 14 people on board the bus, while a driver from another vehicle involved in the collision was hospitalized in critical but stable condition. The Metrotown bus operator, who was also injured during the crash, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

According to Captain Gordon, one person was trapped inside the bus and required medical assistance to be extricated using specialized equipment like jaws of life tools. Witnesses described hearing a loud crash and rushing to the scene where they found people in distress.

One of the eyewitnesses, Wayne Lewis, who was just a few blocks away when he heard the accident, expressed relief that no one suffered more severe injuries given his personal connection to Metrotown as a coworker. The incident remains an active investigation by METRO officials.

Wow 🚨💥, 14 people injured is crazy! Interesting how lucky some of them were with just minor injuries lol 👍. That one guy trapped inside the bus and needed jaws of life tools to get out tho 🤯😬, was that like a scene from a movie?

I'm soooo shocked no one died 🙅‍♂️! I mean, can you believe it? 14 people walking away from that accident with just minor injuries? 😴 It's like the universe decided to give them a second chance at life. And don't even get me started on how lucky the other driver was – stuck in critical condition and all 💔. I swear, the laws of physics must've decided to take a day off that Saturday afternoon 🕰️. The more I think about it, the crazier this whole thing seems 😂.

😔 my heart goes out to those 14 people who got hurt in that bus crash... can you even imagine being trapped inside and needing help to get out? 🤯 i'm just so grateful that all the passengers were okay, considering how serious it was... 1 minor injury is still a huge deal, i know. i wish that first driver from the other car wasn't hospitalized in critical condition tho 😓 hopefully they're getting the best care possible.

anywayz, i heard it's being investigated by METRO officials 🚔💡 and i hope they get to the bottom of what happened... safety first, right? 💕 so many people were counting on that bus ride home from work... i'm just glad everyone made it out alive 😌.

🚨 What's the rush on Highway 288? That bus should've been going slower, especially with all those people on board 😕. Glad no one died but still, injuries are pretty serious... Guess that bus driver was doing double duty as a cop or something! 💥

omg 14 people hurt in bus crash on highway 288 🚨😱 i'm so relieved most of them are okay tho the scene sounds super intense with one person trapped inside the bus and having to be rescued with jaws of life tools... what a miracle that everyone was saved 😌 hope the driver from another car recovers quickly too 🤞
