80-year-old invited homeless neighbor into his home, then was fatally stabbed, DA says

A 45-year-old man, Alon Riabichev, has been indicted for second-degree murder after stabbing an 80-year-old Manhattan resident, Lev Vayner, to death. According to prosecutors, the fatal attack was a brutal response to what is believed to be a prolonged period of exploitation by Vayner.

Riabichev had been living on the hallways of his mother's building, having been kicked out after she herself resided there. Despite having no other accommodation options, Riabichev found himself as a guest in Vayner's apartment, where he would often sleep and shower. Sources claim that this arrangement continued for some time, with Vayner showing kindness to the struggling individual.

However, prosecutors argue that Riabichev ultimately repaid his host's generosity with violence. In the hours leading up to the murder, Riabichev had purchased an 8-inch knife at a nearby store and returned to Vayner's apartment. The circumstances surrounding the attack are unclear, but it is believed to have occurred sometime between midnight and 3:15 am.

The following morning, police responded to a call from Riabichev himself, claiming he had experienced a "psychotic break" and killed someone in the hours prior. Upon arrival at Vayner's apartment, responding officers found Riabichev sitting on Vayner's bed, while the victim lay on the floor with multiple stab wounds.

An attorney for Riabichev has yet to comment on the charges against him.

man... can't believe this dude riabichev thought he could just stab some old guy and then go all "psycho break" 🀯 like that's a legit excuse? newsflash: it takes two to tango, buddy. sounds like vayner was tryin' to be kind and help out a struggling soul, but somehow that got twisted into a murder scene πŸšͺ meanwhile, riabichev just ends up gettin' an 8-inch knife and a lifetime of regrets πŸ˜” hope he's gettin' some good therapy or somethin', 'cause he's gonna need it

man, this whole story is like a cautionary tale about how karma can come back around in unexpected ways 🀯 u feel like riabichev was just stuck between a rock and hard place, struggling to find his footing in life & vayner becomes this kinda 'angel' figure who takes him in but turns out he's been taking advantage of someone else's kindness all along. it makes me think that we gotta be careful about how we treat others, even when they're not around to fight back πŸ’ͺ

.. this is really sad πŸ€•... I mean, I get why Alon Riabichev snapped, but stabbing someone to death? That's just not cool πŸ˜“. It sounds like Vayner was trying to be a good guy and help him out, and for that, Riabichev repaid him with violence πŸ’”.

I can see how it might feel like exploitation if you're living on your mom's hallways and then someone lets you crash at their place, but stabbing him? That's not the way to go πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. I hope Alon Riabichev gets some help and stuff... maybe a good therapist or something, 'cause this is all so messed up πŸ˜•.

🚨😱 just saw this news about Alon Riabichev getting indicted for 2nd degree murder 🀯 he stabbed an 80 yr old man to death after being exploited by him and his mom's building πŸ˜” its like, what even is that? how can someone do that to another human being? i mean i feel bad for the victim, lev vayner, but at the same time, riabichev was literally living off vayner's kindness... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ it just doesn't add up and now he's facing serious charges πŸ’”

ugh I'm so down w/ the justice system right now this guy gets indicted 4 his actions but like we all know how easy it is 2 get caught up in desperation & exploitation πŸ€•. seems 2 me like Riabichev got a raw deal, been living on the streets 4 who knows how long & finds solace w/ Vayner only 2 b stabbed back... what's gonna happen 2 him? πŸš”

I'm not surprised that this is happening... like, it's crazy that people still don't understand how to treat each other with kindness and respect πŸ€”. I mean, Riabichev was literally living on the streets, and Vayner took him in as a guest? It's not rocket science, right? But at the same time, I can see why someone might feel desperate enough to lash out... it's like, we need to break down these barriers between people and just be more understanding of each other's struggles πŸ€—. Anyway, I'm sure Riabichev is gonna get a fair trial, and hopefully he'll get the help he needs ❀️.

🀯 this is so messed up... 45 and kills an 80 year old man over being exploited... πŸ€• it's not like he had no other options, but still... stabbing someone in their sleep? 😱 how did we even live with this guy for so long without him doing something like this? πŸ’” the whole 'psychotic break' excuse sounds like a cop-out to me... if he really was that crazy, wouldn't he have done it before or in a different way? πŸ€”

πŸ˜” that's so sad man... 80 years old and still living in a hallway πŸ€• it's like we've forgotten how to take care of our own 🌟 remember when seniors used to live with their families or even had affordable housing back in the day? πŸ“¦ nowadays it's all about profit over people πŸ’Έ what happened to that guy Riabichev, was he really just driven by desperation or something deeper? πŸ€” his life was basically on hold while Vayner was exploiting him... and now he's gonna spend years behind bars for defending himself πŸ’”

I'm so sorry to hear about Lev Vayner πŸ€•. This whole situation is just heartbreaking. I mean, can you imagine having to deal with exploitation and feeling like you have nowhere else to go? πŸ˜” It's not right that someone would take advantage of another person in such a way.

But at the same time, I don't think we should be too quick to judge Alon Riabichev πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. I mean, he was clearly desperate and didn't have any other options. And then for him to turn around and hurt someone who had shown him kindness... it's just devastating.

I guess what bothers me most is that there are people like Lev Vayner out there who are vulnerable and need our help 🌟. We need to make sure we're creating a society where people feel safe and supported, not exploited and left to fend for themselves.

Anyway, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that justice will be served and Alon Riabichev gets the help he needs πŸ’ͺ.

πŸ˜• I'm just so sad to hear about this tragic event. It's heartbreaking to think that someone like Alon, who was already struggling, got taken advantage of by Lev, who seemed kind and generous at first. But we don't know all the details, and it's clear that there were some issues going on behind closed doors.

I mean, can you imagine having nowhere else to go and relying on a stranger for basic needs like shelter and food? It's not right, but at the same time, I don't think we should be too quick to judge Alon or say he didn't have a right to defend himself. Maybe there was just something that snapped inside of him, and it's not like he was thinking clearly when he committed the crime.

Anyway, my heart goes out to Lev's family and loved ones during this tough time πŸ€•.

omg u guys can't even imagine being in that situation rn... Riabichev is literally living out of his mom's basement and Vayner is taking pity on him like a real human being 🀝 but I guess for some people, kindness just doesn't cut it πŸ’” and the fact that he got caught up in this whole thing is just wild - like what was going through that dude's head when he grabbed an 8-inch knife? 🀯 it's crazy how these things can escalate so fast... anyway, gotta wonder if anyone was looking out for Vayner, considering he was basically taking care of Riabichev... RIP Lev πŸ’”

πŸ€” I'm just trying to wrap my head around this one... a 45-year-old guy gets kicked out of his mom's building and ends up living in an 80-yr-old man's apartment as a favor? That's gotta be tough for Riabichev, but stabbing the old dude to death doesn't seem like the answer πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. The whole "psychotic break" thing sounds suspiciously like a cop-out to me... was Vayner really that abusive? I don't know all the details, but it seems like there's more to this story than meets the eye πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ.
