A 'day of love' with more than 100 casualties

"Faux Love: The Five-Year Anniversary of Capitol Chaos"

The five-year anniversary of January 6 has arrived, a day that will forever be etched in the memories of those who witnessed the violent insurrection at the US Capitol. Donald Trump, the former president who incited the riot, claimed it was a "day of love," but the reality is far from it.

Scores of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building, smashing windows, beating police officers, and clashing with each other in a chaotic scene that was broadcast live on television. The violence resulted in nine deaths, including law enforcement suicides, and over 140 injured officers. The sheer brutality of the event is a stark contrast to Trump's "day of love" rhetoric.

In an attempt to rewrite history, the White House has launched a website dedicated to the January 6 insurrection, labeling those convicted as "peaceful patriotic protesters." The website claims that Capitol police escalated tensions with peaceful protesters and that officers were trying to wave them inside. However, this account is far from accurate, with eyewitnesses describing a violent mob breaching the building.

The Trump administration's efforts to whitewash the events of January 6 are nothing short of Orwellian. By claiming that Democrats were responsible for an "insurrection" against Trump, they are attempting to gaslight the American people into believing that democracy itself is under attack. In reality, it was Trump's supporters who perpetrated violence and destruction.

Lisa Gilbert, co-president of Public Citizen, has called out the White House's efforts as "distasteful, falsehood-filled page." She added that claiming democracy itself is an "insurrection" against Trump is a "gaslighting" tactic aimed at eroding trust in institutions.

It's hard to fathom what kind of love Trump had in mind when describing January 6. The violence and chaos that unfolded would not have been the result of love, but rather a toxic mix of extremism and hatred.

As Democrats continue to push for accountability and truth-telling, it's essential to remember the real events of January 6 and honor the lives lost during the attack. The White House's attempts to rewrite history will only serve to further erode trust in institutions and perpetuate the Big Lie about the 2020 election.

🤔 I'm still trying to wrap my head around how a day that was supposed to be about love turned into such chaos. It's not just about Trump, it's about how we as a society can get so consumed by hate and fear. I think it's crazy how they're trying to spin the whole thing as "peaceful protesters" – newsflash: smashing windows and beating cops ain't peaceful 🚫💔. The White House needs to stop playing politics with history and let the truth shine through. We can't keep gaslighting ourselves into thinking this didn't happen 😕.

I mean, what's the point of even talking about this anymore? It's been five years and we're still trying to figure out what happened on that day? The whole thing is so messed up 🤯. I'm not sure if Trump was trying to be serious with his "day of love" thing or if he just wanted to mess with people, but either way, it came across as really shallow.

On the other hand, I don't think it's right for the White House to try and spin this like they're telling a whole different story. It's not about rewriting history, it's more like trying to take control of the narrative. And honestly, I'm just tired of all the drama surrounding Trump 🙄.

I guess what I'm saying is that we need to move on from this stuff and focus on the present. We can't keep dwelling on the past and expecting things to be different. But at the same time, it's also really important to acknowledge what happened and make sure it never happens again 💔.

🤕 still can't believe what's happening 🙅‍♂️ five years on and it feels like the whole thing never even happened... they're trying to rewrite history now, like that's gonna fix anything... loved ones lost lives ruined, and for what? so trump can save face 🙄

🤕 just thinking about january 6 is giving me the heebie jeebies again, five years on and it still feels like a bad dream what's even more disturbing is how trump's followers are trying to downplay their role in the chaos... meanwhile, those cops who died trying to do their job are still getting no respect 🚔💔

I mean, can we really just move on from this stuff? I'm all for accountability, but let's not try to rewrite history at the same time. The whole "day of love" thing is just laughable. If Trump wanted to promote a message of unity and peace, he should've done it in a way that actually resonated with people, not this...this... 🤣 propaganda. And what's up with the White House trying to spin this as some kind of Democratic-led insurrection? It's like they're trying to gaslight us all over again 😒. The real question is, why are we still talking about this five years later? Can't we just focus on moving forward and doing better? 🤷‍♂️

I'm still shook by what happened on Jan 6, 2019 🤯. Trump's "day of love" comment was like a punch to the gut. It's just mind-blowing that he would spin this as something peaceful and patriotic. I mean, we all saw those riot videos - it was chaos, pure chaos 😱. And now they're trying to rewrite history? Come on! The White House is basically trying to gaslight us into thinking it wasn't a big deal 🙄. But let's be real, 9 people lost their lives that day and so many more were injured. It's not just about Trump's ego, it's about the fact that he incited this violence in the first place 💔. I'm all for accountability, but it feels like they're trying to cover up the truth instead of facing it head-on 🤷‍♂️.
