Brother of man who died at Pa. ICE detention center sues U.S. government

Brother of Chinese Immigrant Who Died at Pa. ICE Detention Center Sues US Government Over Cover-Up

The family of Chaofeng Ge, a 32-year-old Chinese immigrant who died under mysterious circumstances at the Moshannon Valley Processing Center in Pennsylvania, has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Department of Homeland Security. The case centers around allegations that federal officials ignored Yangeng Ge's Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for information about his brother's death.

According to the lawsuit, Chaofeng Ge was found dead in a shower stall on August 5 with a cloth wrapped around his neck and his legs and hands tied behind his back. The cause of death is still unclear. Yangeng Ge claims that federal officials unlawfully ignored his FOIA request seeking answers about his brother's death.

The ICE Detainee Death Report for Ge lists that he was brought to the facility on July 31 after being convicted of accessing an electronic device issued to another person who did not authorize its use. However, the family disputes this information, saying that their brother was held at the facility for several months and that the report is "highly suspect."

The lawsuit also alleges that Ge felt isolated in the facility because no one spoke Mandarin and the staff made no effort to communicate with him. The family has corroborated these allegations through interviews with people who left the facility and medical records.

Yangeng Ge filed a FOIA request on September 9 seeking information about his brother's detention, including details about the conditions of the facility, treatment by personnel, and the circumstances of his death. He claimed that ICE received the request but unlawfully ignored it because they were required to inform him within 20 days whether they would comply.

The lawsuit seeks injunctive relief and for the agencies to release all records pertaining to Ge's brother's detention and death. Yangeng Ge stated, "I am devastated by the loss of my brother and by the knowledge that he was suffering so greatly in that detention center... He did not deserve to be treated that way. I want justice for my brother, answers as to how this could have happened and accountability for those responsible for his death."

The case highlights concerns about transparency and accountability within ICE and the Department of Homeland Security. The lawsuit calls for much-needed clarity into how these agencies treat detainees and for them to release records related to Ge's brother's detention and death.

Ugh, can you believe this? Like, my heart goes out to Yangeng Ge and his family, but the fact that they're suing ICE over this cover-up is just crazy ๐Ÿคฏ. I mean, I get it, we need to know what happened to Chaofeng Ge, but at the same time, there's so much more to this story than meets the eye.

I'm all about accountability and transparency, but let's be real, this is like a ticking time bomb of bureaucratic red tape ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I just hope that Yangeng Ge gets some semblance of justice for his brother, because it's clear that something went horribly wrong in that facility.

And can we talk about how isolating and dehumanizing the experience must have been for Chaofeng Ge? No one speaking Mandarin? That's like, basic human decency right there ๐Ÿ˜”. I'm all for making America great again, but not at the expense of our values as a society.

๐Ÿค• my heart goes out to yangeng ge and his family, it's just so sad what happened to chaofeng... i remember when my cousin was detained at a facility back in the day, she was saying that the conditions were really harsh and they barely spoke any english ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท. if you're gonna lock someone up, make sure they have access to basic human rights like language support and medical care. it's just common sense... i don't know how much more of this we can take as a society ๐Ÿคฏ.

๐Ÿคฏ I'm like, super concerned about this situation. It's just not right that a family has to go through all this pain and struggle because the gov't is hiding info about their loved one's death. The fact that Yangeng Ge had to file a FOIA request in the first place is already pretty red flaggy. And now he's being sued by the gov't for asking questions? ๐Ÿšซ That's just messed up. We need more transparency and accountability, especially when it comes to things like immigration detention centers. The family deserves answers, and so does the public. ๐Ÿ“ฐ๐Ÿ’ฏ

๐Ÿšจ The US government is really gonna get roasted over this one... ๐Ÿคฏ It's just not right that a Chinese immigrant's life was lost under mysterious circumstances at an ICE detention center, and now his family is being silenced by the very people who are supposed to be protecting them! ๐Ÿ’” The fact that Yangeng Ge's FOIA request was ignored and that his brother was allegedly held against his will for months is just heartbreaking. ๐Ÿ™ I think it's high time for these agencies to come clean about what really went down in those detention centers. It's not like we don't already know enough - the lack of transparency and accountability is staggering! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ We need answers, we need justice, and we need change! ๐Ÿ’ช

Man, this is just so messed up... ๐Ÿคฏ A dude's life is literally being turned upside down because his family wants answers about what happened to him in that ICE facility. I mean, can't we get some transparency here? The fact that they ignored Yangeng Ge's FOIA request and kept him in the dark for months is just unbelievable. And now his brother is dead and no one knows the real reason behind it... ๐Ÿค” It's like, what even happens when you're detained by ICE? How do we know these facilities aren't treating people like animals?

I'm all about justice, but sometimes I feel like our system is just a bunch of bureaucratic red tape. We need to get some accountability for these agencies and make sure that families don't have to go through what Yangeng Ge and his family are going through. It's just not right... ๐Ÿ˜•

ICE gotta get its act together, you know? ๐Ÿ˜‚ Like, a guy gets locked up for 20 minutes too long with a dodgy device and now his bro is six feet under? ๐Ÿคฏ And the family is like, "Hey, we want some answers!" But ICE all, "Nah, we'll just ignore your FOIA request." ๐Ÿ™„ What's good is that Yangeng Ge's gonna fight for justice, because clearly ICE ain't doin' it right. This case got me wonderin', what kinda conditions are these detention centers really like? ๐Ÿค”

man, this is so messed up ๐Ÿคฏ... i feel bad for yangeng ge and his family, it's just that the way things went down at that pa ice detention center is super suspicious. i mean, a cloth wrapped around his neck, legs and hands tied behind his back... what even is that? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ and now they're trying to cover up the truth by ignoring his FOIA request. it's like, basic human rights are being trampled here.

i also feel bad for chaofeng ge himself, who was just trying to make a new life in america. he didn't deserve to die under those circumstances. ๐Ÿ’” and yeah, the fact that they're not speaking mandarin at the facility is just another example of how uncaring and unprepared these agencies are.

anyway, i hope yangeng ge gets some answers and justice for his brother's death. it's time for accountability and transparency in our immigration system ๐Ÿ“Š๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ

OMG, this is so unfair ๐Ÿคฏ! Can't believe the US government is being sued by Chaofeng Ge's family over the mysterious death of his bro at that ICE detention center in Pa. The fact that Yangeng Ge sent a FOIA request and was ignored is just crazy ๐Ÿ˜ฒ. I mean, who ignores a request for info on someone's own brother's death? It's like they're trying to cover something up... which, tbh, makes me super suspicious ๐Ÿค”. The family claims their bro was held in solitary confinement and no one spoke Mandarin, so he felt totally isolated. That's just heartbreaking ๐Ÿ˜”. I think this lawsuit is a much-needed wake-up call for ICE and DHS to step up their game and be more transparent about how they treat detainees. Justice for Chaofeng Ge, for sure! ๐Ÿ’ฏ

My heart goes out to this family, it's absolutely horrific what happened to Chaofeng Ge ๐Ÿค•. I can only imagine how hard it must be for Yangeng Ge to not know the truth about his brother's final days, especially when there are so many unanswered questions about the conditions at that facility. It's not just about Chaofeng's death, but also about the treatment of all detainees who go through similar experiences. I think it's really important for these agencies to be more transparent and accountable, it's our tax dollars at play here ๐Ÿ’ธ. And what's with this report that says his brother was brought in for accessing an electronic device? That just doesn't add up ๐Ÿค”. The fact that staff didn't speak Mandarin or make any effort to communicate with him is just cruel ๐Ÿ˜•.

Ugh, this is just another example of the US government trying to sweep things under the rug ๐Ÿ™„. I mean, come on, if they had nothing to hide, why did they ignore Yangeng Ge's FOIA request? It's like they're trying to cover up something big and are too afraid to admit it. And now his family has to take matters into their own hands by suing the government. It's just so sad that this had to happen. I'm not surprised that the conditions in that detention center were a nightmare for Chaofeng Ge - ICE should really get its act together when it comes to treating detainees with dignity and respect. ๐Ÿค• And another thing, why did they have him chained up like an animal? That's just cruel and inhumane. I'm glad Yangeng Ge is speaking out for his brother's rights, but at the same time, I wish this had never had to happen in the first place.
