Dwayne Peel: Under-pressure Scarlets boss vows to 'fight hard'

Scarlets Head Coach Dwayne Peel Has Vowed To "Fight Hard"

Under-pressure head coach Dwayne Peel has vowed to lead the Scarlets off the foot of the United Rugby Championship (URC) table. The team, last season's quarter-finalists, have endured a torrid start to the 2025-26 campaign with just two wins in eight outings.

Peel acknowledged that results and performances had not been up to the team's standards this season but stressed that there was still time to turn things around. "Everyone is feeling that hurt," he said. "We're obviously not happy with where we sit in the table, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to say that, but there is a lot of rugby to be played this season and we need to get a bit of momentum back."

Peel was boosted by the return of players such as Sam Lousi, Jake Ball, Taine Plumtree, and Blair Murray, while others like Sam Costelow, Johnny Williams, and Archer Holz remain sidelined.

The Scarlets face Pau in the European Champions Cup on Saturday, a match that marks a crucial part of their bid to regain momentum. Peel's focus is on getting the team back on track, with results against Ospreys and Dragons still fresh in his mind. "If you lose a couple of games the spotlight will turn on you and I get that," he said. "It is part of professional sport unfortunately, you do get periods where you're on top and you get periods where you lose games, and we've lost two games."

Peel vowed to fight hard for the Scarlets, with results against Pau and Ulster in the coming weeks crucial in their bid to avoid relegation. "My job is to fight hard... we will not let that week define us," he said.

The bigger picture is one of transition and adjustment for the Scarlets, who have had to adapt to losing senior internationals while bringing younger players into the fold. Peel acknowledged that there would be a three-month turnaround from last season's performance but stressed that the team was working hard to improve amid all the uncertainty and budget cuts in Welsh rugby.

Peel's comments come as the Scarlets look to bounce back from disappointing derby defeats against Ospreys and Dragons, with Saturday's match against Pau a crucial part of their bid to regain momentum. The coach's vow to fight hard will be tested over the coming weeks, but he is confident that his team can overcome the current challenges and turn things around.

i'm worried about the scarlets, they've been struggling so much this season ๐Ÿค• but at the same time, dwayne peel seems like a super passionate coach who's willing to fight hard for the team ๐Ÿ’ช i think it's great that he's acknowledging their struggles and saying there's still time to turn things around. the return of key players like sam lousi and taine plumtree is a big boost for them ๐Ÿ™Œ now they just need to get some momentum back and win those crucial matches against pau and ulster ๐Ÿ’ฅ

can't believe the pressure on peel ๐Ÿคฏ he's right though we are still in a tough spot with 2 wins in 8 matches, it's gonna take more than just him to turn this season around tho ๐Ÿ’ช the return of players like lousi, ball, and plumtree is a big boost, but we need consistency, not just one or two good games ๐Ÿค” if he wants to fight hard, he needs to get his team playing with some real flair, not just making up for lost time ๐Ÿ’ฅ

omg like i'm literally dyin over here!!! ๐Ÿคฏ dwayne peel just gave me CHILLS with his speech!!! ๐Ÿ’– he's got this scarlets squad on a roll again and i am HERE. FOR. IT!!! ๐Ÿ”ฅ we need to see some magic happen against pau on saturday, can u imagine the crowd going wild???? ๐ŸŽ‰ i know the guys are feeling the pressure but peel is right, it's all about getting that momentum back! ๐Ÿ’ช and omg yes, blair murray's return is like a breath of fresh air!!! ๐Ÿ˜ let's go scarlets and make peel proud!!! ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿค” I was just thinking about trying out that new food truck near the city center... have you guys tried it? They serve these crazy good burgers with this sweet potato fries that are literally addictive ๐ŸŸ๐Ÿ˜‹. Anyway, back to the Scarlets... Dwayne Peel is really showing his leadership skills by keeping a positive attitude despite the team's struggles. It's like how I try to keep my mind off my to-do list when I'm at the beach and just enjoy the waves ๐Ÿ˜Œ.

๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ’ช Dwayne Peel's right ๐Ÿ’ฏ! We gotta see some serious effort from the Scarlets ๐Ÿ”„ or they'll be stuck in last place โฌ‡๏ธ! With key players back, it's time to get those wins ๐Ÿ’ฅ! Pau match is huge ๐ŸŽ‰ and I'm hoping for a comeback ๐Ÿ”„! It's all about momentum now โฉ and I'm counting on Peel & co. ๐Ÿ”ด๐Ÿ’ช
