Michigan’s Flos Cannabis owner caught using N-word but denies being racist - Detroit Metro Times

A Michigan cannabis business owner has found himself at the center of controversy after using a racial slur in a text message. Timmy Holton, the owner of Flos Cannabis, a high-end cannabis operation in Kalkaska, made the derogatory comment about one of his former employees.

In a now-deleted Facebook post, Holton acknowledged using the N-word and claimed he was not racist. He said, "I'm not going to sit here and deny what I said sometimes in the heated moment you say stupid things." However, when confronted by another individual who pointed out his hypocrisy, Holton responded by saying, "If you've met me, you know I'm not racist. Just trying to grow fire smoke and support my family."

Despite admitting he used the slur, Holton maintained that he wasn't racist, stating, "I only got love for everyone." However, an individual who texted him urged Holton to apologize, saying, "You're a business owner and probably half your money comes from people of color. It's unacceptable to use such language."

When asked what he wanted the person to do about his comment, Holton replied, "Hold your nuts and stand on what I said." The individual then fired back, "By the way, if you gotta say I'm not racist, you're probably fucking racist."

The controversy surrounding Holton's comments has raised questions about his character and leadership. Flos Cannabis has faced regulatory issues in the past, including citations from the state for alleged violations.

Holton's actions have sparked a heated debate about racism in the cannabis industry and the need for greater accountability among business owners.

Oh my gosh 🤯 I'm so disappointed in Timmy Holton right now 😔 He can't just apologize and expect everything to be okay, especially when he admitted to using a super hurtful word 💔. I mean, if you're gonna say something like that, own up to it and take responsibility 🙏. It's not about "growing fire smoke" or supporting your family 🤷‍♀️, it's about treating people with respect and kindness ❤️. Flos Cannabis has got some serious damage control to do 💼

omg i cant even lol this guy Timmy Holton is straight up clueless 😂 he thinks apologizing is gonna make everything ok but really its just more proof that he didnt think thru his words 1st. like whats wrong with admitting when u messed up and saying sorry? its not that hard 🤷‍♀️ i dont get how ppl can say they support diversity & inclusion but still use a racial slur like that. it's def not cool, dude 💔

omg this is wild... i mean like, i get that everyone makes mistakes but using the N-word is super serious, you know? he's all "i'm not racist" but then gets defensive when someone calls him out on it... it feels like he's trying to justify his actions instead of owning up to them. and what's with the "hold your nuts" comment lol. like, who says that? anywayz, i feel bad for his former employee who was subjected to that slur. maybe this is an opportunity for Flos Cannabis to reflect on their own practices and make some positive changes? 🤔💁‍♀️

🤦‍♂️ This dude is like, totally owning his controversy 🙄. I mean, who needs an apology when you can just shrug it off and say "hold your nuts" 🤣? It's not like he's gonna be the poster child for Flos Cannabis or anything. Meanwhile, people are actually expecting businesses to do better than this? Like, we're talking about a industry that's still kinda rough around the edges (pun intended). And yeah, some folks might say Holton's not racist, but does using the N-word in a text message really scream "I'm not racist"? 🤷‍♂️ Guess you can't always judge a book by its cover... or should I say, a smoke cloud?

omg this guy is literally a total mess 😂💔 i cant believe he thinks using that slur and then acting like its no big deal is gonna fly under the radar...newsflash timmy: it's always gonna be a problem 🙅‍♂️ and honestly, if you're making money off of people of color, YOU GOTTA BE HONEST WITH THEM about your views...like, come on dude, apologize already 💁‍♀️ and maybe take some actual action to make things right 🤞

omg this guy is a total mess 🤦‍♂️ his excuse that he only says racist stuff when he's stressed just doesn't fly, like who does that?! 🙄 i feel so bad for the person who was targeted by him, i can imagine how hurtful and unacceptable those words must've been. as a student, we're always learning about diversity and inclusion in school, it's crazy that this is still a thing 10+ years later 😔

I'm really disappointed in Timmy Holton, he was having a good rep as a cannabis businessman but now this whole thing is bringing him down 🤦‍♂️. I mean, I get that we all say stupid things sometimes but using the N-word is never acceptable and it's surprising he thought he could just talk his way out of it 😒. As someone who owns a small business, you've got to be mindful of how your words reflect on you and your company 🤝. The thing is, this isn't just about Holton, it's about the culture of acceptance in the cannabis industry and how we hold each other accountable for our actions 👊. If he really wants to grow his business and support his family, he needs to take responsibility for his words and apologize sincerely 💯.

omg this is so messed up 🤯 timmy holton seems like just another bad guy who thinks he can get away with saying some shady stuff because they didn't quite fit into one category or another newsflash, using racial slurs is NEVER okay and it's not about being "racist" or not it's about respecting people's identities and experiences

and honestly, it's wild that he thought he could just own up to it and then talk his way out of it like that "oh I'm not racist" doesn't cut it when you've used a slur in a text message and claimed you were "just trying to grow fire smoke"

anyway, i think this whole thing highlights how we need to hold people in power accountable for their actions, especially when it comes to marginalized communities. we can't just expect business owners to be perfect or to magically know what's okay and what's not

Flos Cannabis should definitely face consequences for allowing this kind of behavior and more importantly, timmy holton needs to take some time to reflect on his own biases and privilege 🤷‍♀️

man this guy timmy holton is so extra i get that we all say stupid things in the heat of the moment but using a racial slur like that is never acceptable he thinks he's all cool just talking about fire smoke and supporting his family but really he's just a dude who needs to take responsibility for his words and apologize like proper

and what's with this "if you've met me, you know i'm not racist" vibe? that's just a weak attempt to deflect the blame he thinks everyone's just gonna let it slide because they think he's "not racist" in some abstract way newsflash timmy: using a racial slur is never okay

and fire back at him like that? yeah that person was totally right to call him out for his hypocrisy

🤕 this is just so messed up... like how can you own a successful cannabis business but still be able to slip up that bad? it's not even like he was trying to make a point or stir up some kind of conversation... no, he just went and said something hurtful and then expected everyone else to just "hold their nuts" and deal with it. meanwhile, his business is suffering because people are holding him accountable for his actions. newsflash: racism isn't just about what you say, it's about how you treat others and the power dynamics at play. if he really wants to grow his business and support his family, he should start by educating himself on what it means to be an ally to marginalized communities. until then, Flos Cannabis is going to have to continue dealing with the consequences of his actions. 🚫

🤔 this is so messed up... timmy holton thinks he can just use a racial slur in a text message, apologize, and then tell someone to "hold their nuts" when called out on it? 🙄 that's not leadership, that's just being insensitive and tone-deaf. as a business owner, especially in an industry where diversity is already lacking, holton has a responsibility to be more thoughtful with his words. using the N-word is never okay, period. and to say you're "not going to sit here and deny what I said" when confronted about it just makes it worse. 🤦‍♂️ the fact that he thinks he can "grow fire smoke" and support his family by doing this just shows a lack of understanding about how hurtful words like that can be to others. 🚫

Ugh, this guy is like, totally clueless 🙄... I mean, how hard is it to just own up to using a racial slur and apologize? He tries to justify himself by saying he's not racist, but really, it sounds like he's just trying to avoid accountability. And honestly, his business has been having some issues with the state anyway, so maybe this is just a case of him trying to deflect attention from those problems. It's not cool that he used the N-word in the first place, but at least he deleted the Facebook post, right? Still, it's a major red flag for me - if he can't even take responsibility for his own actions, how can we trust him to run a business that relies on diversity and inclusion?

🤦‍♂️ This is wild, dude. Like, I get that we all make mistakes, but using the N-word just to say you're not racist is like, so messed up 🙅‍♂️. It's one thing to acknowledge your mistake and apologize, but it sounds like Holton just wanted to shift the blame and shut down the conversation 💔. And honestly, I don't think that "if you've met me, you know I'm not racist" defense holds up either 🙄. The fact is, his words still hurt people and perpetuate a system of racism that's hard to fix 🤕. We need more than just empty apologies from business owners who claim to support diversity and inclusion - we need real action 💪.

I just saw the cutest video of a puppy learning to ride a bike online 😂💕, and I'm like totally distracted from this whole Holton thing 🤷‍♀️. But seriously, can't we all just take responsibility for our actions? Using a racial slur is never okay, no matter how "heated" the moment was ⚠️. And I'm not buying into the "I'm not racist" excuse either, dude 🙅‍♂️. It's like, owning up to your mistakes and apologizing is one thing, but then using that as a deflecting tactic? No thanks 😒. What really gets me is how some people are downvoting Holton's post just because he admitted to being a bit of a mouthpiecer 🤦‍♂️. Like, let's focus on having tough conversations and working towards change instead of shaming each other 🤝.
