The Baltimore Ravens have sacked head coach John Harbaugh after 18 years in charge, following a dismal season that saw the team fail to qualify for the NFL playoffs.

Harbaugh is the fifth coach to be let go since the end of the regular season on Sunday when the Ravens suffered a heartbreaking defeat at home against division rivals Pittsburgh. Tyler Loewe missed a crucial last-second field goal, allowing Pittsburgh to snatch victory and secure their place in the playoffs.

The decision marks an unprecedented 18-year tenure for Harbaugh with the franchise, which was founded in 1996. Despite having two-time Most Valuable Player Lamar Jackson at quarterback since 2018, Baltimore have only reached the AFC Championship game once since winning Super Bowl XLVII 13 years ago.

Harbaugh expressed gratitude and appreciation for his time at the Ravens, but acknowledged that this would be an "incredibly difficult decision". Harbaugh was also praised by owner Steve Bisciotti who stated that Harbaugh is a "great man of integrity".

🤔 can't say I'm surprised about this one, 18 years is a looong time and things gotta change eventually. Ravens have been struggling for a bit now, and Harbaugh's gotta take some responsibility. The dude's been here since '06, can't he just have one more year of rebuilding or something? 🤷‍♂️ I don't blame Harbaugh for feeling like this is an "incredibly difficult decision" - he was stuck with some questionable decisions by Bisciotti and the front office. can't believe john harbaugh got canned after 18 yrs 🤯 he's gotta be hurtin' right now, thought he had that team gonna make a deep run 💔 was thinkin' about how far lamar jackson took him, two MVPs and whatnot... but i guess 17 yrs of mediocrity is just too much for anyone to handle 😐 still appreciate harbaugh's integrity tho, seems like he's a stand-up guy 👊 coachin' is tough, even the best of 'em gotta take the L sometimes 🤞 hope he finds another gig soon

I gotta say, 18 years is like, way too long for a coach to stick around and not get results 🤯. I mean, Baltimore had Lamar Jackson, one of the best QBs in the league, but still couldn't make it to the playoffs? That's just crazy talk! 🙄 And now they're letting Harbaugh go? About time, imo 😊. I think it's gonna be hard for Bisciotti to find someone who can turn that franchise around, you feel me? 🤔
 
🤔 18 years is a long time, but you've got to wonder if it's just been too much of a good thing. Like, does one coach really deserve that kind of longevity? I feel bad for Harbaugh though, he's a great coach and an even better guy according to Steve Bisciotti 💕. 🤔 can u believe it tho? 18 yrs goes by and they decide to axe harbaugh 🙅‍♂️ still got 2 mvps on his squad lol, lamar jackson is a beast 🐯 but ravens just couldnt get it done this season 😔. i feel bad for the guy tho, he's been loyal to the team and they gave him nothing in return 💔. at least steve biscotti said somethin nice about him 🙏. weird season we're havin in the nfl playoffs with all these coaches gettin fired 🔥 but u can't deny harbaugh's dedication to the ravens ❤️
