Prices for an old Star Wars game have ballooned because of its role in a PS5 jailbreak

The Price Tag of Rebellion: How a Decade-Old Star Wars Game Became a Hot Item for Hackers

A relatively obscure Star Wars racing game has seen its price skyrocket in recent days due to its role in a PlayStation 5 jailbreak. Limited Run Games' port of the PS2 classic, Star Wars Racer Revenge, was released on the PS4 in 2019 and was never expected to gain such traction.

The game's use as a key ingredient in the jailbreaking process was announced on December 31, and its importance became clear when it was revealed that jailbreakers needed a copy of Racer Revenge to execute a specific exploit. The bug in the game's Hall of Fame feature allows hackers to inject new code into Sony's console, making it an attractive method for bypassing security measures.

As a result, retail copies of Star Wars Racer Revenge have become highly sought after, with prices increasing dramatically on online marketplaces like eBay. Used copies are now listed for as much as $411, a staggering increase from its original price range of $14.99 to $37.50. The limited supply of the game, with only 8,500 copies produced by Limited Run Games, has only added to its value.

The company's business model, which involves releasing old games in limited quantities, has inadvertently created a valuable commodity among hackers. While this may not be the intention behind the release of Racer Revenge, it is now clear that the game has become a prized item in the PS5 jailbreak community.

As the demand for Star Wars Racer Revenge continues to grow, it will be interesting to see how long this trend persists. For now, however, hackers and collectors are willing to pay top dollar for their copy of the game, making it one of the most unlikely and expensive items to emerge in the gaming world in recent months.

This is wild 😂 I mean, who would've thought that a 10-year-old Star Wars racing game would become so valuable among hackers? It's like they're collecting rare artifacts or something 🤣 The fact that only 8,500 copies were made by Limited Run Games has definitely contributed to its value. And the business model thing is just crazy - it's like they intentionally created a demand for this game 💸. I'm not sure what the future holds for Star Wars Racer Revenge, but for now, it's definitely one of the most unlikely collectibles out there 🤑

I'm not surprised to see some old game like Star Wars Racer Revenge become super valuable all of a sudden 🤑. It's just another example of how easily you can manipulate something that doesn't even matter to most people by making it hard to access or use 💻. I mean, who would've thought that a racing game from 10 years ago could be the key to breaking into a PS5? It just goes to show that our tech is only as strong as its weakest link 🤔. And now we've got hackers and collectors willing to shell out some serious cash for it... it's just getting ridiculous 😂.

😂 I mean, can you believe this? Some retro Star Wars game becomes a hot item for hackers and now people are paying like $400 for a game they never even asked for 🤑. It's wild how much of a demand there is for something that's just being used as a tool to break console security 🤯. And the worst part is, Limited Run Games probably had no idea their business model would create such a valuable commodity 💸. I guess you could say they've created a new kind of 'gaming collectible' 😅.

OMG I cant even believe its been skyrocketing on eBay !! 💸🚀 8k5 copies were never expected to make someone go crazy over it lol who knew Star Wars Racer Revenge would become a super rare collector's item ? 🤯 411 is crazy btw 14.99 wasnt even enough for most people back in the day so i guess some games really do hold up

OMG, can you believe this?! 😱 I mean, I know some gamers can get super into certain games, but a Star Wars racing game becoming like, super valuable because hackers need it for their console? It's wild! 🤯 Like, I love the Star Wars franchise and all, but this is just crazy. And the company that released it, Limited Run Games, didn't even mean to do this... they were just trying to bring an old game back to life on PS4. Who knew it would become like a collector's item?! 💸 The price increase is insane - $411 for a used copy? That's like, 27 times the original price! It's crazy how a bug in a Hall of Fame feature can make a game so valuable. 🤯
