Popular Plant-Based Pop-Up Brings Arcade Fun to Detroit's Corktown
A beloved plant-based pop-up has found a permanent home in Detroit's vibrant Corktown neighborhood. Street Beet, known for its creative takes on classic American comfort food, is now open for business in the former Bobcat Bonnie's space at 1800 Michigan Avenue.
To celebrate its grand opening, Street Beet is hosting a festive event from 4 to 11 pm on Thursday, December 11, which marks the start of an exciting new chapter for the restaurant. The menu features a range of innovative plant-based options, including meatless coney dogs, smashburgers, chicken sandwiches, and nachos.
Guests can dine in or take their food to go from a walk-up window, while also enjoying classic arcade games and pinball machines from Offworld Arcade, which are now part of the Street Beet experience. The restaurant plans to expand its offerings with a brunch menu, full service bar, coffee counter with vegan pastries, and patio seating.
For founder Meghan Shaw, the grand opening represents a significant milestone in the brand's journey. "We've dreamed of this space for years," she said. "Bringing Street Beet home to Corktown feels unreal – this is our biggest leap yet, and we can't wait to feed everyone again."
Street Beet has been making waves in the plant-based scene since its launch in 2018, with pop-up events and a residency at Midtown's Third Street Bar. The brand recently announced plans for additional suburban locations and an outpost in Birmingham.
As part of its growth strategy, Street Beet partnered with a hedge fund to aim for wider recognition and accessibility. With its new location, the restaurant is poised to bring healthy, innovative dining options to even more people in Detroit.
