Thai Hoa to Star in Vietnamese Dramedy ‘Mr. Hero’ for HK Film, V Pictures and Fremantle’s Beach House

Vietnamese Comedian Thai Hoa to Star in Heartwarming Dramedy "Mr. Hero" for HK Film, V Pictures, and Fremantle's Beach House

Production has kicked off in Vietnam on the upcoming dramedy "Mr. Hero", a story about a down-on-his-luck father who fakes a heroic rescue to impress his daughter, only to find himself thrust into the national spotlight. The film marks a collaboration between HK Film, V Pictures, and Beach House Pictures, a Fremantle company.

Thai Hoa, one of Vietnam's top box office draws since his breakout performance in "Fool For Love", leads the cast under the direction of Vo Thach Thao, who is behind hit series "Cay Tao No Hoa". The film takes its cue from a 2011 incident where Nguyen Ngoc Manh rescued a child who fell from a twelfth-floor window, earning widespread acclaim.

Thao's screenplay flips the premise, having the protagonist stage his own heroic moment, then must grapple with the consequences when the deception snowballs. According to the filmmakers, the character's journey toward genuine courage forms the emotional core of the story.

Producer Timothy Linh Bui is behind Happy Canvas alongside Do Dinh Truong, Trinh Hoan, and Tuong Vi, while Vo Thach Thao wrote the script with Doan Hai Van. "I'm excited to help bring this heartfelt story to the screen," said Bui. "We all recognized the potential in 'Mr. Hero' – a touching and universal story that will resonate with audiences everywhere."

HK Film's Executive Producer Phong Nguyen expressed excitement about collaborating with V Pictures, Beach House Pictures, and director Thach Thao on "Mr. Hero". The film promises to be a deeply moving story of a father's love and sacrifice, connecting with audiences worldwide.

For Beach House Pictures, the project represents a push into the Vietnamese market. "We're absolutely thrilled to be joining forces with Timothy, Trinh Hoan, V Pictures and the brilliant team at HK Film," said Conor Zorn, head of scripted at Beach House Pictures.

V Pictures CEO Nguyen Hoang Hai added: "This is an incredibly exciting partnership for our studio. With a strong ensemble cast, a talented director and an experienced powerhouse team, 'Mr. Hero' has all the ingredients for a major box office success."

Principal photography began on location in Vietnam with CJ CGV set to distribute the film locally in April 2026.

Just watched some clips from "Mr. Hero" and I gotta say, Thai Hoa's got this! His comedic timing is still on point 🤣. As a parent myself, I love how the story highlights the lengths we'd go to for our kids. The idea that he fakes his own heroism just to impress his daughter is so... relatable 😂. But what I'm really excited about is how it explores themes of genuine courage and redemption. It's not always easy being a parent, but this film shows us that even when we make mistakes, we can learn from them and grow ❤️. Can't wait to see the final product! 👍

I'm not getting too excited about this new drama "Mr. Hero" 🤔. I mean, it's just another tale of a guy faking his way into hero status? It's been done before and I'm not convinced we need to see it again. Plus, the premise sounds kinda cheesy 🧀. A down-on-his-luck dad stages a heroic moment only to have it blow up in his face? Yeah, that's not exactly original or compelling.

I also wonder how they're going to make this story feel "heartwarming" and "universal". It's been done before with other tales of fathers trying to redeem themselves. I need something more innovative than just a predictable character arc 🤷‍♂️.

Also, what's up with the random celebrity cameo? Is it really necessary for the plot? Can't they just tell a great story without relying on Thai Hoa's star power? 🎬

Just when I thought Vietnamese comedians couldn't get any more roles in dramas... but seriously tho, Thai Hoa's lead role in "Mr. Hero" sounds like a great opportunity for him to showcase his range beyond just comedy. How much of this story is based on real life? Was it just the 2011 incident or are there other inspirations? And what makes you think V Pictures, HK Film & Beach House Pictures are all good partners for this project?

lol i no why vietnam r so good at makin movies rn 👍 they got talent 4 days 🤣 but seriously "Mr Hero" looks like a really touching story 4 me 🤗 its about this guy who fakes bein heroic but ends up havin to deal w/ the consekuences lol what a bummer 😂 cant wait 2 c thai hoa in it 💪 beach house pics is also makin moves in vietnam btw 👊

Thats so cool! 🤩 I love how this Vietnamese comedian is taking on his first HK film role, it's like he's been waiting for this opportunity and now its time to shine. I also really like the idea of a dramedy where the main character makes a heroic act but it backfires. Its a pretty interesting take on that classic "fake it till you make it" trope. I'm curious to see how they're gonna execute this story and if it's gonna resonate with audiences worldwide. Maybe we'll even get some Vietnamese perspectives in the HK film scene?

just saw that thai hoa is starring in "mr hero" sounds like it's gonna be so good, got me a little emotional just thinking about the premise 😊 gotta love how the filmmakers flipped the original story around, from fake hero to real one... and timothy Linh bui seems like a cool producer, happy to see them bringing this heartwarming tale to life 🎥

omg this sounds so heartwarming 🤩 i love how the filmmakers flipped the idea of a heroic rescue into something more complex and emotional 🙏 thai hoa is gonna kill it as lead actor, can't wait to see him shine on screen 💫 and i'm all for v pictures and hk film collab, it's like they're bringing this beautiful story to life together 💕 beach house pics too is adding a new vibe by exploring the vietnamese market 🌸 fingers crossed for an amazing movie experience 🎥

Yaaas, can't wait to see Thai Hoa crush it in this new movie 🤩! I'm low-key obsessed with the idea of him playing a hero who's not so heroic 😂. The plot twist is genius, I love how it turns from "I'm a hero" to "I'm an actual problem" 🤯. And can we talk about the cast? This ensemble is on fire 🔥! With Vo Thach Thao at the helm and such talented producers behind this project, I'm predicting major Oscar buzz 🎉. The Vietnamese market better be ready for some serious Hollywood magic ✨.

I've always been fascinated by people who are willing to take risks and put themselves out there, even if it means being vulnerable. Thai Hoa seems like one of those guys - making a big splash with his comedy skills and now tackling drama. I love that he's playing a character who tries to fake his way into heroism, only to find himself in real trouble. It's a great reminder that true courage comes from facing our fears head-on, not from trying to pretend we're something we're not 🙏

I don't get why they have to make "dramedy" sound like it's such a big deal 🤔. It's just a funny movie, right? I mean, if they want to throw around words like "heartwarming" and "universal story", can't they just call it what it is: an entertaining romp about a guy who fakes his way into being a hero 😂.

And another thing, why do movies always have to be so long-winded about the people involved? "Executive producer Phong Nguyen expressed excitement..." who cares? It's not like we're going to be invited to the premiere or anything 🎉. Can't they just focus on making a good movie instead of trying to sell us on how great the team is? 😒
