UK and France agree to deploy forces to Ukraine in the event of a peace deal – as it happened

UK and France Unveil Plans to Deploy Forces to Ukraine in Event of Peace Deal

In a significant development, the UK and France have announced their intention to deploy forces to Ukraine in the event of a peace deal with Russia. This move comes after a summit in Paris hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, attended by over two dozen leaders of Ukrainian allies, including US envoy Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.

The declaration of intent, signed by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Macron, and Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskyy, paves the way for the deployment of British and French troops to Ukraine. The UK will establish a "Multinational Force for Ukraine" that will act as a reassurance force to bolster security guarantees and support the regeneration of Ukraine's own forces.

The UK and France have committed to establishing military hubs across Ukraine, which will enable the deployment and build protected facilities for weapons and military equipment to support Ukraine's defensive needs. In addition, post-ceasefire, the two countries will establish a coordination cell to facilitate cooperation on security matters.

French President Macron has pledged to continue supporting Ukraine's forces on the frontline, with a focus on ensuring their ability to deter Russian aggression. The US has also expressed its commitment to obtaining peace in Ukraine, with Steve Witkoff stating that his boss, US President Trump, wants "peace" above all else.

However, not everyone is optimistic about this development. In response to the declaration, Russia has likely to block any efforts at peace, according to UK Prime Minister Starmer, who stated that Putin is "not willing to show peace". The two leaders have committed to increasing pressure on Russia, including measures related to oil trades and shadow fleet operators supporting Russia.

The coalition of willing states has issued a statement committing to preserving security, stability, and cooperation in the Arctic region. However, matters concerning Denmark and Greenland are said to be for Denmark and Greenland to decide alone.

This latest development highlights the ongoing tensions between Ukraine's allies and Russia, with the conflict showing no signs of abating. As the world waits to see whether a peace deal can be reached, one thing is clear: the UK, France, and their allies will continue to support Ukraine in its bid for security and stability.

I'm not sure if it's a good idea for the UK and France to deploy forces to Ukraine... 🤔 I mean, don't get me wrong, they want to show their support and all, but isn't there already enough of that going on? 💸 Like, can't we just talk about peace instead of escalating things? 🕊️ And what's with the military hubs in Ukraine? Isn't that just gonna be a big target for Russia or something? 😬 I'm just worried it's all gonna blow up in our faces... 🚨

I don't know about this new plan 😐... Deploying troops to Ukraine just seems like another escalation of the situation 🤔. I mean, isn't peace supposed to be all about diplomacy and negotiations? 💬 Not about throwing more bodies into the mix 🔥. I'm worried that we're just prolonging the suffering of the Ukrainian people 🤕. What's really going on here is that Russia's not going to back down, and our allies are just trying to find ways to pressure them 👊. But at what cost? 🤔

💡 just think about it, more soldiers on the ground dont mean less conflict, it just means more people trying to stop russia 🤝 but what if we could work together with russia instead of against each other? 🌎 a peace deal is still a long shot but its worth a try 🤞 maybe this new initiative will bring some good vibes to the situation 💖

🤔 I'm not sure if this is a good idea at all... like, what's next? 🚫 We're already having to worry about a bunch of countries sending troops into another country because of some peace deal that might not even happen. It just seems like more money and lives will be lost in the end. And Russia is going to block any efforts at peace anyway, so it's all just a waste of time and resources. 💸 Plus, what about the Arctic region? Are we just going to go around making things up as we go along? 🌊 It just seems like a bunch of countries trying to make themselves feel better by pretending they're doing something useful when really they're just stuck in a cycle of conflict. 🤕

🤔 This whole situation is like trying to grasp water with your hands... you think you've got it, but it slips away from you. I mean, one day we're all for peace, the next we're talking about deploying troops and putting pressure on Russia? It's like we're running in circles. 🌀 What does "peace" even mean in this context? Is it just a word to placate our allies and make them feel better? Or is it something more profound? We're all caught up in the drama of it, but what about the quiet moments when we actually have to confront what's really going on. 💭

I'm getting so frustrated... like, what's next? Are they gonna send troops over there just to keep things ticking along? It feels like nobody's really trying to fix the problem or talk it out... 🤯 Russia's already been super aggressive, but now we're just sending more people to stick our necks out too... I don't know if that's even gonna work. And what about all the innocent people caught in the middle? Have they thought this through at all? It feels like a never-ending cycle of violence and no clear end in sight... 😩

🤔 The whole thing seems kinda like we're stuck in some sort of geopolitical loop... The US and Europe are all about supporting Ukraine, but Russia's not exactly showing any signs of wanting a peace deal. It's like they're just trying to keep the status quo going on. 🚫 And honestly, I don't think deploying more troops is gonna solve anything. We're just piling on more resources without really addressing the root cause of the problem. Maybe we should be thinking about how to get all sides to the table and talk things out instead? 💬

just saw this news 😕 i dont think deploying more troops is gonna help, its all about show of force, when russia gets a new peace deal, its just gonna be another excuse for them to attack again 🤔 whats the point of sending british and french soldiers to a warzone thats already been going on for years? im not saying we shouldnt support ukraine, but we gotta think about the long term effects of our actions 💭

🤔 just wondering if this is gonna happen or all talk? like what's the point of deploying troops if russia ain't even taking it serious lol 🤑 meanwhile, china's been building up its own military presence in eastern europe... anyone else think we're sleepwalking into another world war 😕 also, why are they trying to control the oil trades? that just smells like a recipe for disaster 💣

🤔 think its gonna be a long road to peace in ukraine ... uk & france deployin troops might give russia some pause but not sure itll work... russia's always been good at using its power of influence to get what it wants... 🚫 also dont know how long the us is willing to keep supporting ukraine without seein any tangible progress... time will tell

I'm not sure about this... 🤔 It's like they're setting up a bigger bomb just waiting to go off. Deploying forces without any guarantee of peace? 🚨 That's just asking for trouble. And what about the long-term consequences? Will these troops be there forever, drawing attention and resources away from their own countries? Not to mention the fact that Russia is basically saying "nope" to peace, which doesn't exactly fill me with confidence 😒.

I think it's time for some world leaders to take a step back, breathe, and consider all the angles before acting. This war has already been going on for what feels like an eternity, and I don't want to see anyone else get caught in the crossfire 🌪️. Can't we just try to talk things out instead of resorting to military force? 🤞

😒 I'm low-key worried about this deployment plan... like, what's the actual timeline looking like? Are we talking months, years? And how many troops are we really talking about? It feels like just another band-aid solution on a much deeper problem 🤕 Not to mention the whole Russia thing... they're gonna block any peace efforts if Putin gets wind of this. What's the plan B, then? We can't keep throwing good money after bad forever 💸
