With this year’s El Niño forecasted to be exceptionally strong – and potentially record-breaking – we may see more intense impacts sooner than expected.

The western US is already feeling the brunt of this new reality. Montana is under an extreme heat watch, with parts of the state expected to see temperatures as high as 110 degrees.
Policymakers must take immediate action to mitigate these effects by investing in climate-resilient infrastructure, supporting renewable energy sources, and implementing policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It’s also essential to acknowledge the human impact on the climate – excessive carbon pollution linked to our activities is directly responsible for the extra heat-trapping effects we’re experiencing this summer.
