US lawmakers and voters are largely disappointed with the deal that ended the recent government shutdown. According to a new CBS News/YouGov survey, more Americans believe Republicans and President Trump got more of what they wanted than Democrats did.
The poll found that 54% of Americans think Republicans were successful in getting most of what they wanted from the negotiations, compared to just 26% who said the same about Democrats. A smaller percentage, 27%, believed both parties got a good deal out of the shutdown.
Rank-and-file Democrats are less satisfied with their party's performance during the negotiations. In contrast, Republicans are more likely to say they're relieved and satisfied with the final result.
The survey also found that many Americans believe health care issues were at the center of the debate during the shutdown. A majority think that health insurance premiums will increase in the coming months due to the shutdown, while others expect air travel to improve as government employees return to work.
