I won't apologise for The Lost King – Leicester University's treatment of Philippa Langley is a profound injustice | Steve Coogan

A Hollywood biopic about a real-life heroine has been unfairly maligned by those who claim she should apologize for her role in uncovering the remains of King Richard III. Philippa Langley, an amateur historian with ME (myalgic encephalomyelitis) and other health issues, is portrayed as perfection itself in The Lost King.

The university that was once supposed to support her instead turned on her. It was only because she refused to back down that we were able to tell the story of a remarkable woman who should be celebrated for finding the remains of a 500-year-old dead king on its own doorstep.

🤔 I feel so bad for Philippa Langley, you know? She's already dealing with some serious health issues and then she gets portrayed as perfect in this movie... it's just not fair! I mean, we all have our flaws and imperfections, right? And can you believe the university that was supposed to support her turned on her? That's just harsh.

I think it's great that they found King Richard III's remains though! It's such an incredible story and we should be celebrating Philippa for her determination and perseverance. She didn't give up even when things got tough, which is what makes her a hero in my eyes. 🙌 I wish the movie would've shown that side of her more, you know? Instead it seems like she's just portrayed as some kind of superhero who's perfect all the time... not very relatable, if you ask me 😐

I'm still fuming about this whole thing 😡, you know, I saw The Lost King with my partner and I was totally moved by Philippa Langley's story 🤩, but then we found out that some people were trashing the biopic because she wasn't perfect enough 💁‍♀️. Like what even is that? I mean, can you imagine someone going to war or discovering a centuries-old skeleton and being like 'oh, you're not good enough' 😂? It's just so unfair. And what really gets me is that the university where she was supposed to be supported turned on her when she refused to back down 🤦‍♀️, but I guess that's just how some people are 💔. Anyway, Philippa Langley is a total hero in my book 👏 and I think we should be celebrating her bravery and determination 🎉, not criticizing the biopic for portraying her as a strong woman 💪.

I'm so sick of the double standards here 🤯. Philippa Langley's story is all about perseverance and dedication, but they're only highlighting her imperfections in The Lost King while glossing over how she fought for justice despite everything she was going through with her health issues 💪. Like, can't we just celebrate women who are unapologetically themselves, even when that means being a bit rough around the edges? 🤷‍♀️

It's not like she's asking to be celebrated for finding the king or anything – she's just asking to be recognized as a brilliant historian and archaeologist in her own right 💫. And yeah, I get it, we should all strive for perfection, but let's not forget that Langley is human too, with flaws and all 🤕. We need more stories about women who are unapologetically themselves, flaws and all ❤️.

omg u guyz this is soooo unfair!!!! Philippa Langley deserves way more credit than what's being given her in The Lost King biopic she's literally an inspiration to us all with her me (myalgic encephalomyelitis) struggles and how she didn't let that hold her back from pursuing her passion 🤕👏 I mean, can u imagine if she was just some perfect, polished historian who never had to deal with health issues or any obstacles? no way! she's a real-life hero and we should be celebrating her, not tearing her down 😔 The university that was supposed to support her instead turned against her because of her conviction - what kind of environment is that?! 🤷‍♀️ Langley's dedication & perseverance are exactly what we need more of in the world 💪🏽

OMG, I'm so done with this biopic drama 🤯! Philippa Langley is literally my spirit animal - she's got ME and all these other health issues and still manages to do what most people can't even fathom doing: find a 500-year-old king's remains 💪. And then to be portrayed as some kind of perfect historical figure in the movie, no way! 🙅‍♀️ I mean, we know she wasn't perfect, but who is? She was just an amateur historian who got caught up in this incredible story and refused to back down when everyone else turned on her. It's like, can't we celebrate our imperfections and acknowledge that even the most 'imperfect' people can achieve amazing things? 🤗 I'm so glad she refused to apologize for her passion and dedication - we need more Philippas in this world! 💖

🤔 I feel so bad for Philippa Langley, she's been thru enough with her health issues and it's just not right that people are trying to bring her down about this biopic 🎥. I mean, can u imagine how hard it must be 2 deal w/ the pressure of finding King Richard III's remains and then have ppl say she should apologize for it? 🙄 it's like, no way, girl! She deserves all the credit 4 her determination & perseverance 💪. And can we talk about the university that was supposed 2 support her instead turning on her? 😡 that's just low. The fact that they backed out is a testament 2 her strength in not giving up & telling their story 📚. I'm def rooting 4 this woman & all the amazing things she's accomplished 💕.

🙄 I'm so tired of how these Hollywood biopics can just whitewash history. Like, Philippa Langley sounds like an amazing person to me, she's got serious health issues and still manages to achieve this incredible feat... 🤯 I mean, 500 years old! Can you even imagine? 😲 But yeah, it's pretty frustrating that the university just turned on her when she refused to back down. It's like they were more worried about being "polite" than supporting a real-life heroine. 😔 And now we're left with this movie that portrays her as perfect... no one is perfect, right? 🙄 I mean, who are they trying to portray in the first place? The real Philippa Langley? Or some idealized version of her? 🤷‍♀️

🤔 I mean, can you believe the drama surrounding Philippa Langley? They're really going after her because she's 'perfection' according to The Lost King? Give me a break! 🙄 She's just a passionate amateur historian with some health issues, but that doesn't define her. And honestly, who wouldn't want to uncover the remains of King Richard III? That's like, ultimate historical detective work.

And what really gets me is that the university she was working at basically turned on her when she refused to back down. It's like they were more worried about their own reputation than about the actual discovery of a major historical find. I'm so done with people trying to shame her for being determined and successful, especially considering all the challenges she's faced. Langley is actually a total hero in my eyes 💪

I'm so fed up with this biopic controversy 🙄... I mean, come on! Philippa Langley's dedication to uncovering the truth about King Richard III is something we should all be celebrating 🎉. And can you believe some people are saying she should apologize for it? 😂 What's next? Apologize for being born? 💁‍♀️

It's just so unfair that her own university turned on her after she stood up for herself and refused to back down ⚔️. I mean, if someone's got the guts to challenge the status quo, you should be supporting them, not tearing them down 😤.

And what's wrong with being an amateur historian? She was passionate about the subject and that's what drove her to make a difference 💡. We should be encouraging people like her, not making them feel like they're some kind of villain 👊.

The Lost King is more than just a biopic – it's a tribute to a remarkable woman who refused to let anyone silence her 🙏. We need more stories like hers, not less! 💪

I'm still reeling from this one, you know? 😱 I mean, Philippa Langley is literally the ultimate underdog - she's got ME and other health issues holding her back, but she still manages to change history with her discovery of King Richard III's remains. And now they're trying to turn her into some kind of villain in this biopic? Come on! 🙄 I'm so glad that people are standing up for her and refusing to let this movie tarnish her legacy. It's a total shame that the university she worked with turned on her, though - that just goes to show you who they really care about. Anyway, I think we need more stories like Philippa Langley's being told, not less! 💪 She's an inspiration to anyone who's ever felt like their health issues or personal struggles are holding them back. We should be celebrating her, not tearing her down! 👏

omg, i'm so disappointed in how philippa langley is being portrayed in the movie 🤕😒 she's literally a hero who went through so much just to uncover the truth and it's not fair that people are trying to shame her for it 💔 her health struggles shouldn't be used as an excuse to doubt her achievements, especially when she was all alone fighting for what she believed in 💪 it's like the university is trying to erase her legacy and silence her voice 🗣️ but langley refused to back down and that's what makes her story so inspiring 🙌 we should be celebrating her courage and determination, not tearing her down 😔

🙅‍♀️ The way Philippa Langley is being portrayed in this biopic is kinda harsh 🤕, especially since she's been open about her health struggles 💉. I think it's unfair to say she should apologize for uncovering King Richard III's remains 😒 - that was an amazing achievement! 👏

🔥 The university's treatment of her is totally unacceptable 😡, and I'm so glad she didn't back down 🙌. It's all about speaking truth to power 💪, and we need more women like Philippa Langley leading the charge 🔓.

👑 This biopic should be celebrating her bravery and determination, not portraying her as some kind of perfectionist 👀. Let's give Philippa Langley the recognition she deserves 🎉!
