Mary Earps interview: Former England goalkeeper says 'I've not written the book to tear anyone down'

Former England women's national team goalkeeper Mary Earps has made it clear that her recently published book was not intended to be a vindictive attack on her former teammates and coaches, but rather an honest account of her experiences in the world of English women's football.

In an interview with BBC Sport's Emma Sanders, Earps expressed her disappointment at how some aspects of her book have been distorted or taken out of context. "It's been overwhelming to see how some things have been distorted," she said. "I didn't write a book to tear anyone down. I wanted to tell my story and share the lessons I've learned along the way."

Earps' comments come as the book has sparked controversy among some in the football community, with accusations of sour grapes and betrayal levelled against her by some of her former teammates. However, Earps remains defiant, insisting that she has done nothing wrong.

"I'm proud of what I've achieved in my career and I feel it's time for my story to be told," she said. "I'm not going to let others define me or dictate how I present myself. I'll keep telling my story and sharing my experiences with the world."

The interview is a rare insight into Earps' thoughts on her career and her experiences in the women's game, and provides a unique perspective on some of the controversies that have surrounded her in recent times.

πŸ™Œ OMG, I'm so proud of Mary Earps for speaking her mind and being honest about her experiences! πŸ€— I think it's totally fair that she wrote a book to share her story and lessons learned - nobody expects perfection, right? 😊 It's actually kinda refreshing to see someone owning their accomplishments and not letting anyone bring them down. πŸ™Œ I'm glad she's standing by what she said and isn't worried about others' opinions... after all, you can't please everyone! πŸ’β€β™€οΈ

I'm so sorry to hear Mary Earps has had to deal with all this drama πŸ€•, her honesty is actually super refreshing πŸ’–. I think it's crazy how people can twist things like that and make it seem like she's trying to tear others down πŸ˜’. Like, what even is the point of doing that? Can't we just have a good chat about life experiences without all the shade πŸ™„? Anyway, kudos to Mary for speaking her mind and staying true to herself πŸ’ͺ.

omg i think mary earps is being super brave by speaking out about her book πŸ™ŒπŸ˜Š she didnt write it 2 tear ppl down, but 2 share her story n lessons learned πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ. ppl r making a big deal outta nothin πŸ‘€ & now its just makin her life harder πŸ’”. earps is defent πŸ™…β€β™€οΈ & wont let others dictate how she presents herself πŸ‘―β€β™€οΈ. i got love 4 her n hope ppl can get over the drama πŸ€—

Omg, can you believe this? 🀯 Mary Earps just spoke out about how people are twisting her book to fit their own narratives. Like, I get it, she was upset to see things distorted, but still... πŸ˜’ It's crazy how some people can't take a constructive criticism or an honest account without turning it into a personal attack. I think she's got a point, though - we should all be able to share our stories without fear of judgment or backlash. And honestly, her book does sound like a valuable insight into the world of women's football πŸ€πŸ’ͺ So, let's give Mary some props for owning up to her story and not letting others define her. πŸ‘

πŸ€” I'm like, totally surprised that people are making it out as if Mary Earps wrote this book to be all bitter and stuff πŸ™„. Like, she's saying it's an honest account of her experiences and she just wants to share her story, so... πŸ“š It's not that deep, guys! πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ I mean, if you read the whole thing, you'll see it's more about her growth as a player and a person, not all about tearing others down. πŸ‘ She's been really open about what she's gone through in the women's game, and now some people are just trying to paint her as this bitter ex- teammate? πŸ˜’ That's just not fair. πŸ™…β€β™€οΈ

Come on, folks πŸ€”! Let's get real for a second. This whole thing with Mary Earps and her book is just a classic case of #MeToo...I mean, #MyTruth gone wrong πŸ˜’. We're living in a world where everyone wants to be the victim or the hero, but who's really calling out the real issues here? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Earps says she wrote the book to share her story and learn from her experiences, but honestly, it sounds like she's trying to spin this whole thing as some kind of feminist crusade 🌹. Newsflash: just because you're a strong woman doesn't mean you can just trash your colleagues and expect everyone to be okay with it πŸ™„.

And don't even get me started on the sour grapes accusations πŸ‡. If someone's really that bitter about their own career, maybe they should focus on their own issues rather than trying to tear down others πŸ˜’. It's all just a big game of politics and PR spin πŸ’Ό. Who's got the most control here? Earps, or her critics? πŸ€”

I feel bad for Mary Earps, really πŸ€• I've been following her career for ages, she's always been so dedicated to the sport. I can imagine how frustrating it must be to see your story being twisted like this... I mean, I get why she wrote the book, to share her experiences and all that, but it's just not cool when people misinterpret things πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ.

I think some of these 'former teammates' are just mad because they're being held accountable for their own actions, you know? We've seen plenty of cases where people in power try to silence others by making them look bad. It's all so... extra πŸ’β€β™€οΈ. Anyway, I hope Earps continues to speak her truth and share her story with the world – we need more women like her who aren't afraid to get real 🌟.

Mary Earps just dropped like 5 bombshells 🀯 about her book and I am HERE. FOR. IT πŸ˜‚! She's saying she didn't write it to roast anyone, but to share her real story and lessons learned? girl bye πŸ‘€! But for real though, it takes guts to speak up and tell your truth, especially in a sport where there's always drama πŸ€΄β€β™€οΈ. I'm loving the fact that she's owning it and not letting others dictate how she presents herself πŸ’β€β™€οΈπŸ‘. It's gonna be so interesting to see what happens next with this whole situation...

πŸ˜• so she wrote this book to be honest about her expereinces but now people are saying it's like an attack on her teammates πŸ€” and I feel bad for her because she just wants to share her story without anyone twisting it πŸ“š. I don't think that's cool when ppl try to make it sound like she's being mean or something πŸ˜’. I guess you gotta respect her desire to be open about her life even if some parts are getting distorted πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ.

I'm so disappointed to hear that Mary Earps' book has been twisted like that πŸ€•. I read it and she just seems like a really honest and vulnerable person trying to share her story with the world. I get why people might be upset, but some of those accusations are just plain unfair πŸ˜’. She's still an icon in women's football and everyone should respect her for what she's achieved πŸ™Œ. The fact that she's feeling overwhelmed by all the negative attention is just heartbreaking ❀️. Can't we just support each other and celebrate our successes instead of tearing each other down? πŸ’ͺ

Ugh πŸ€• Mary Earps got roasted after releasing her book about her time on the England women's national team squad... sounds like some people are still salty from being left out or not getting playing time. πŸ˜’ I mean, I get it, she might've spoken a bit too much to some folks, but come on, she said she didn't write it to "tear anyone down"... that's just good PR, innit? πŸ™„ Still can't believe the drama that goes on behind closed doors in sports... always something, right? πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

I'm surprised to see Mary Earps being roasted by her former teammates πŸ€”. I mean, she wrote a book, and now everyone's all bent out of shape about it πŸ˜’. It's not like she was trying to burn any bridges or something πŸ”₯. She just wanted to share her story and move on with her life. But hey, if some people can't handle the truth, that's their problem πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. I'm just here for the tea, and Mary Earps seems like a solid person who just wants to be heard πŸ‘‚. Let's not forget she's still got an incredible career under her belt 🎯!

I'm surprised by how much attention this whole thing has gotten πŸ€”. From what I've read, it seems like Mary Earps is genuinely trying to share her side of the story without malice. The fact that people are questioning her intentions and labeling her as vindictive feels a bit unfair to me. It's not about tearing anyone down; it's about telling her own truth and sharing her experiences. I think it's refreshing to see someone in her position take control of their narrative and not let others define them πŸ™Œ.
