What’s going on in metro Detroit this week (Oct. 29-Nov. 4) - Detroit Metro Times

If you're looking for something to do in Detroit this Halloween weekend, there's plenty on the agenda. One event that's sure to draw a crowd is Youmacon, a convention celebrating anime and pop culture. The 20th anniversary of the event brings thousands of fans to Huntington Place, where they'll enjoy celebrity guests, musical performances, and, of course, incredible cosplay. Cosplayers will showcase their intricate and creative costumes, often crafted by hand.

Youmacon takes place from October 30 to November 2, with varying hours each day. Tickets start at $75 and are available online at youmacon.com.

For those who want to celebrate Halloween in a more low-key way, there's a bar crawl happening on Friday and Saturday. Participants will roll through the city, enjoying drinks, food, and drink specials, all while being documented by a professional photographer. The event starts at 4 pm on October 31 and November 1.

Children won't be left out of the Halloween fun either – Ford is hosting a party at Michigan Central Station, featuring trunk-or-treating outside decorated vehicles, mask-making, and face-painting. Inside, there's a special performance series with DJ Dez Andrés, Gabriel Duran, and Motor City Street Dance Academy. And don't forget the cider and doughnuts.

Halloween festivities will continue on October 31 at Detroit's Masonic Temple, where Insane Clown Posse is set to perform their 32nd annual Hallowicked show. This year's event promises surprise guests and a live-streamed broadcast on veeps.com.

For those in the mood for some spooky sounds, Northern Lights Lounge is hosting a Halloween DJ night featuring Marcellus Pittman, one of Detroit's top house music DJs. The event starts at 9 pm on October 31 and tickets are $28.55 (advance) or $34.30 (day of show).

Mmm, have you tried those new sour gummies they just came out with? I mean, I know we're talking about Halloween events in Detroit, but I just got a bag of them at the store yesterday and they're SO good! 🤯 I was walking down the street today thinking about how much fun it'll be to trick-or-treat, but then I started wondering if sour gummies are more popular among kids these days... maybe they're just more Instagrammable? Anyway, back to Youmacon - 20 years is a big deal! I hope the cosplay is as amazing as everyone says it is.

I'm not sure if I love the idea of Youmacon drawing thousands of fans to Huntington Place, but it's also kinda cool that cosplayers get to showcase their crazy costumes 🤖👗... wait, no, that's exactly what I don't want! I mean, who needs all those people in one place? And $75 for a ticket is steep, but at the same time, it's Youmacon, so maybe it's worth splurging 🤑. Ugh, my brain hurts from trying to decide...

Ugh, can't believe how much stuff is gonna be happening in D-Town this Halloween 🤣... seriously though, what's with all these events? Can't we just chill for one weekend without being bombarded with tickets and flyers everywhere? But I guess that's the vibe of the city now, all about bringing people together and celebrating pop culture. Youmacon sounds lit though, gotta get those cosplay pics 📸... but $75 is kinda steep, don't know if it's worth it for me. Bar crawl sounds fun tho, been meaning to check out some of those hidden bars in the city. And I'm surprised they're not doing anything to address the rising cost of living here... guess that's just a bigger problem to deal with later 😒.

omg can't believe it's that time of the year again 🎃🕷️ i'm super stoked for youmacon tho, been waiting for their cosplay contest for ages, those costumes are always so intricate and inspiring 💥 but ugh why do we need another excuse to overpay for stuff 🤑 tickets are already $75 lol what's next? $100? meanwhile can we talk about the real issues in detroit, like affordable housing and public transportation 🚂🏠

omg u gotta check out youmacon this yr! its gonna be lit!!! i mean, 20 yrs of anime & pop culture fest is a big deal lol what's not to love? celeb guests, musical perfos, and cosplayers on fleek?? 🤩 i'm planning on getting my ticket ASAP cuz its gonna sell out so fast 😅 also, who's excited for the bar crawl tho? 🍻🎉 and dont even get me started on the kids party at ford... trunk-or-treating and face-painting? yes pls! 🎃👶

OMG u guys! if u r in detroit 4 halloween weekend u gotta check out youmacon!!! 🤣 it's like the ultimate anime fest with celeb guests, music & AMAZING cosplay 🎭👗 i mean who doesn't luv a good face-painting session tho? 😂 and if u wanna keep it chill just do the bar crawl or grab some cider & doughnuts at ford station 🍰🍻

btw Insane Clown Posse is doing their thing @ masonic temple 🎸 & northern lights lounge has a sick DJ night 🎶 marcellus pittman u r the man! 🤙♂️

omg youmacon is gonna be so crowded i dont think its worth the $75 ticket but hey if you wanna see some awesome cosplay and meet anime stars go for it 🤣 i do love a good bar crawl tho especially when theres a pro photographer documenting your wild night out lol i heard insane clown posey's hallowicked show is gonna be lit 🎃👻 but idk about the surprise guests they always seem to just throw some random rapper on stage idc if u r into that sorta thing 👀

OMG, I'm so down for Youmacon this year! It's gonna be lit with all the celebrity guests, musical performances, and amazing cosplay 🤩. I've been following some of the cosplayers on social media and their costumes are insane! 💥 I mean, who wouldn't want to see a giant Spider-Man or Harley Quinn walk around the convention center? 😂 The bar crawl sounds like so much fun too! Getting my friends together for a spooky night out in Detroit is exactly what I need. And, can we talk about Insane Clown Posse's Hallowicked show? I've been listening to their old school tracks and I'm hyped to see them live 🎉. Anybody else planning on attending any of these events?

omg i'm so down for youmacon this year its gonna be my 1st time going 🎉 i've been a fan of anime since i was like 8 lol i'm thinking of cosplaying as Mikasa from Attack on Titan, anyone know if they accept handmade costumes? 💅🏼👗 also can't wait for the bar crawl event, my friends and i have been planning that one for months 🍻🎃 it's gonna be so lit!

Ugh I'm so glad some people in Detroit have something to do for Halloween 🎃👻! If you're an anime fan like me, Youmacon sounds like a total blast with all those celebrity guests and epic cosplay 🤩. And hey, who doesn't love a good bar crawl on Friday night? 🍺👫 But if you're feeling really little, I think Ford's party at Michigan Central Station is actually kinda cool - my kid loves trunk-or-treating and it sounds like they'll have some sick beats inside 🎵. And Insane Clown Posse's Hallowicked show at the Masonic Temple? That's gonna be lit 🔥!

So you're thinkin' about headin' to Youmacon this Halloween weekend, eh? Well, let me tell ya somethin', it's not just about the costumes or the celebrity guests... it's about bein' part of a community that shares your passions. Think about it, when was the last time you did somethin' with people who truly get you? That's what Youmacon is all about – connection and inclusivity. And hey, if you're lookin' for somethin' a little more chill, just hop on that bar crawl or grab some drinks at Northern Lights Lounge... it's all about spreadin' the vibes and havin' a good time with friends!

Ugh I'm so low-key excited for Youmacon this year 🤩! I mean, it's crazy that they're finally going to stream some panels live... I've been wanting to see a certain anime artist's Q&A session for ages, but they were always sold out 🙄. And can we talk about the cosplay? Those people are literally artists in real life... I mean, have you seen the level of detail on some of those costumes?! It's like, I need to get into that creative energy or something 😂. But yeah, $75 for a ticket might be a bit steep for me this year, but I'll probs just shell out for it and take my friends 🤜🤛. Anyone else planning on going? 🎉

I'm so down for Youmacon this year 🎉! I've been waiting for the 20th anniversary to drop, it's gonna be lit 💥! Cosplayers are always a highlight, I love seeing all those intricate costumes on people. And I'm thinking about going on that bar crawl too, sounds like a blast with a pro photographer documenting everything 😂. Also, can't wait for Ford's party at Michigan Central Station, kids will have so much fun trunk-or-treating and making their own masks 🎃️. But if I'm being real, Insane Clown Posse is my jam 🔊, Hallowicked always brings the energy! And lastly, Northern Lights Lounge's Halloween DJ night has got me hyped 🕺, Marcellus Pittman is one of my fave house music DJs 👍

omg you know i'm so down for Youmacon this year 🤩 its like the ultimate anime fest and i've been waiting for ages to see some of my fave celebs in person! 🙌 and can we talk about the cosplay? i mean, those people are like total artists or something 💥 i wish i had the skills to make a costume that intricate lol. anyway, i'm planning on going to the bar crawl too since who doesn't love a good drink and some spooky vibes? 😈 and if you're with little ones, Ford's party at Michigan Central Station sounds like so much fun! 🎃 i just hope they have enough cider and doughnuts for all those kids...

Ugh, sounds like another busy weekend in Detroit with tons of people floodin' the city 🤯🎃. I mean, I'm all for celebratin' Halloween and stuff, but can't we just have a chill weekend for once? 😒 Anyway, Youmacon's gonna be huge, I guess 🤪, and if you're into anime and cosplay that is. And who knows, maybe the bar crawl'll be lit 💃🏻, but prob just another bunch of people makin' fools of themselves out in public 😂. Ford's party sounds like a decent way to keep kids entertained, though 👧, at least it's not gonna be too expensive 🤑. Insane Clown Posse is back, which is always a wild ride 🤪, and Northern Lights Lounge's DJ night might just get me in the mood for somethin' spooky... but let's be real, it's still just another night of loud music and crowds 🎶😬

I'm so over Youmacon this year 🙄 - like, it's just too crowded and expensive ($75 for a ticket?!) and what's up with all the cosplay... can't we just appreciate anime and pop culture without dressing up in elaborate costumes? 😒 I'd rather stick to that bar crawl on Friday and Saturday, at least that sounds like a chill way to celebrate Halloween. And omg, Insane Clown Posse is still going strong? 🤯 I mean, love them or hate them, they always know how to throw a party. Ford's kiddie party looks cute too, but let's be real, it's just not as cool as hitting up the Northern Lights Lounge for some spooky beats on Halloween night 💃

Ugh, Halloween in Detroit sounds like so much fun 🎃👻! I'm a bit bummed that all the events are happening around the same time, but at least there's something for everyone - from low-key bar crawls to high-energy concerts. Youmacon is always a highlight of my year, and 20 years is just crazy 🤯! I love how cosplay has become such an integral part of anime and pop culture fandoms. And, man, Insane Clown Posse's Hallowicked show is going to be lit 🔥! Who else is planning on attending any of these events?

Ugh, another excuse for people to wear ridiculous costumes and pretend to be something they're not 🤣. Like, what's the point of dressing up as a character from an anime if you're just going to stand around in a crowd all day? I mean, don't get me wrong, cosplay can be fun, but can we please just go for something a little more low-key this year?

On the other hand, a bar crawl that involves professional photographers sounds like way too much work. Can't people just drink and have fun without being documented 24/7? And why does everything have to start at some arbitrary time? I mean, can't we just go out whenever we feel like it?

Anyway, kids seem to have a good time with the party at Ford, so that's something. And who knows, maybe Insane Clown Posse will bring back some nostalgic vibes this year... but let's be real, they're not exactly the epitome of mainstream cool 💁‍♀️.
