Today’s edtech landscape is no different. AI-powered tools promise to personalize learning and adapt to individual needs, but Horvath argues that this approach only reinforces existing inequalities. By creating a false narrative about the inadequacy of traditional education, tech companies have sold us on a solution that doesn’t exist – or at least, not one that benefits students.
The real transfer problem here is not between devices and subjects, but between our expectations for technology and its actual impact on learning. It’s time to reevaluate the role of edtech in our schools and recognize that computers are not a panacea for what ails education. Instead, we need to focus on creating learning environments that prioritize human interaction, critical thinking, and deep understanding – skills that cannot be reduced to algorithms or screens.
