AFCON 2025: Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, Man Utd's Bryan Mbeumo among UK-based players selected for tournament

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah and Manchester United's Bryan Mbeumo are among the UK-based players to have been selected for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The tournament is set to commence on December 21 in Morocco.

A total of 53 players from 19 out of the 24 competing nations have so far been named in their squads. Notably, Benin, Comoros, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon are the only four countries that do not include any UK-based players in their squads.

Some notable UK-based players who have made it to the list include Manuel Benson (Swansea), Dango Ouattara (Brentford), Bertrand Traore (Sunderland) and Issa Kabore (Wrexham). The full list of UK-based players has not been released yet.

The tournament will consist of the group stages, which will take place from December 21 to December 31. The last 16 round will follow on January 3-6, followed by the quarter-finals, semi-finals and third-place play-off matches.

omg can't believe how excited i am about afcon 2025 lol! first of all gotta say kudos to these british players making it to the squad like manuel benson & dango ouattara πŸ™ŒπŸΌπŸ’ͺ especially for brentford's ouattara, he's been having an amazing season so far. also gotta mention that comoros and gabon are being kinda snubbed with no british players πŸ€” maybe they should consider reaching out to some uk-based talent? anyway can't wait to see these africa cup of nations matches go down! Morocco is hosting an awesome event this year, the stadium's supposed to be lit πŸ”₯

OMG 🀯 just saw the squad list for AFCON 2025 and I'm so hyped for the UK-based players to represent! Like, Bryan Mbeumo from Manchester United is a beast on the pitch πŸ˜… and Mohamed Salah is still one of the best! Can't wait for the tournament to kick off on Dec 21 πŸ•°οΈ. Also, just thought about how cool it would be if they had a special section on their squad pages with stats and all that jazz πŸ“ŠπŸ’», like a little mini-highlight reel or something...

OMG u guys I'm like literally super stoked that those UK based players made it into the afcon squad πŸ€©πŸ˜† i mean mo Salah is like a legend on the pitch but Bryan Mbeumo from man utd is so underrated lol what's with benin and comoros not having any uk based players tho? did they just decide to leave them at home πŸ™„ anyway i'm planning to go to the afcon matches in morocco next year and I'm literally counting down the days until it starts πŸ’ƒπŸ½πŸ•Ίβ€β™€οΈ can't wait to see all the amazing football skills on display πŸ€Έβ€β™‚οΈ

I'm so stoked to see some talented UK-based players getting picked for the AFCON 🀩! Salah and Mbeumo are total dream picks – they're gonna bring that fire to Morocco 😎. I'm loving the squad diversity too, especially with all the young guns like Ouattara and Traore looking to make a mark 🌟. And can't help but wonder what's cooking with Manuel Benson... is he ready to take his game to the next level? We'll have to wait and see! The AFCON is always an exciting event, and I'm hyped for this one πŸŽ‰. Morocco, get ready for some top-notch footy action!

OMG I just had the craziest dream last night I was trying to make a grilled cheese sandwich and my cat kept knocking over the butter! 🀯 Anyway back to AFCON...I'm so excited for Mohamed Salah to represent Egypt on the biggest stage πŸ™Œ but can we talk about how weird it is that Manchester United's Bryan Mbeumo made the cut tho? I mean, didn't he just move to Wales? πŸ˜‚ Wrexham FC, right?! 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

🀩 I'm super excited for this tournament! πŸ† It's awesome to see UK-based players from teams like Swansea and Brentford making it into their squads πŸ¦…πŸ˜ƒ. I think Bryan Mbeumo's selection is a great addition, he's an incredible player πŸ‘. The fact that some African countries haven't included any UK-based players in their squads is kinda surprising πŸ€”... but I guess you can't blame them for choosing their own talents πŸ’ͺ. Can't wait to see all the action-packed matches and goals galore ⚽️! πŸ”₯πŸ‘

man, its gonna be sick to see these UK-based players reping their countries in AFCON 🀯! i'm loving seeing more diverse squads now, its not just about the big european clubs anymore, smaller teams are starting to get a shout out too πŸ’ͺ. salah and mbeumo looking good, but theres some other talented uk players who might make an impact like manuel benson and dango ouattara 🀩. cant wait for december 21st and the tournament to kick off, its gonna be fireworks on and off the pitch πŸ”₯!

πŸ€” So, it's crazy to see some of these UK-based players making it to the AFCON squad, right? I mean, think about it, for them to be playing for their countries of origin, but not being from those countries... it just highlights how global football has become, and how we're all connected through this beautiful sport 🌎. But at the same time, it's also a reminder that there's still so much work to be done in terms of representation and diversity on the pitch. Like, what can we do to ensure that more players from underrepresented nations get the chance to shine? πŸ† And I guess that's just another reflection of our society - we're all striving for equality and fairness, but it's a journey, you know? 😊

πŸ€” just saw that some UK-based players made it to AFCON squad πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡³ like Mohamed Salah & Bryan Mbeumo πŸ† what's cool is that they're still representing their African countries even though they were born/moved here 🌎 think it's awesome to see more players from the diaspora coming through for Africa πŸ™Œ

I gotta wonder, why only four countries don't have any UK-based players in their squads? Like, is it a coincidence or what? I'd love to see some stats on player representation in other African teams πŸ€”. And what's up with the group stages starting on Dec 21st, feels like a pretty short notice πŸ•°οΈ. How's gonna affect team preparation and strategy? πŸ†

I think it's awesome that UK-based players like Salah and Mbeumo got picked for the Africa Cup of Nations 🀩! It shows that they're not only good at their jobs but also passionate about representing the African diaspora community in Europe πŸ’ͺ.

Imagine the energy on the pitch when all those talented Africans from the UK get to compete against each other in Morocco 🏈! I hope we see some thrilling matches and goals galore ⚽️!

Also, 53 players already? That's a pretty big squad. Maybe they're hoping for an African Uprising or something πŸ˜‚. Seriously though, this is great for promoting football (or soccer) as a unifying force across borders 🌐.

Oh, and one more thing: when can we expect the full list of UK-based players to be released? Can't wait to see who else made the cut πŸ€”!

OMG 🀩 I'm so stoked that some UK-based players made it into the AFCON squad πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ† especially like Bryan Mbeumo, he's been doing sick stuff for Man United πŸ‘ but Liverpool's Mohamed Salah is always a dark horse πŸ¦‡ his pace and skill are unmatched on the pitch ⚽️ hope he brings that fire to Morocco 🀞 can't wait to see how the group stages play out πŸ”„ it's gonna be a thrilling tournament, defo keeping an eye on it πŸ‘€

I think it's kinda weird that Benin, Comoros, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon are gonna sit out this AFCON tournament πŸ€”πŸ‘€ I mean, they're all African countries, right? shouldn't they be rep'ing themselves on the biggest stage in Africa? πŸ˜• It seems like they're giving their UK-based players a free pass to play for other teams instead of rep'ing their own national sides. Not saying it's bad or anything, but I thought that was how AFCON worked πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Salah's gonna smash it in AFCON 🀯! But what's with no UK-based players from Benin? Come on, guys! You've got some talented young guns there... Dango Ouattara for breif though is a beast on the pitch 😎! I'm loving that the tournament is happening in Morocco tho, should be an amazing experience. And Sunderland's Bertrand Traore is definitely one to watch πŸ€”... can't wait for all this African football action to kick off in Dec!

omg did u hear about afcon?? i'm so hyped!! lol just saw that salah is going lol what's up with benin and comoros not having any uk players? i wonder why they left them out πŸ€” anyway, bryan mbeumo is cool he plays for man utd... does anyone know how much afcon tickets cost?? πŸ€‘ u think liverpool can win it now that salah is there? btw has anyone tried the food in morocco?

omg did u see this 🀯 so many talented african players r going to afcon i wonder if uriyo (yio) mbengue is gonna play or not? lol benin & comoros dont have any uk-based players in their squads which is kinda weird why is that? could be cuz they dont have as many football fans πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ but i heard that afcon is going to be super competitive this year with all the top african teams participating πŸ† u think mbenga (bryan mbeumo) can lead man u (liverpool's mohamed salah) to a win? 😁 anyway, cant w8 for dec 21st! πŸŽ‰

I'm telling ya, there's something fishy about this whole AFCON thing πŸ€”. I mean, have you noticed that all those countries without any UK-based players are like, super suspiciously good? Like Benin, Comoros, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon all have these young, talented players just waiting to shine... but what if they're not even from there? What if they're like, imported or something? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

And let's be real, the UK-based players that made it are pretty shady too. Manuel Benson from Swansea is a midfielder, but has he ever played in Africa before? I don't think so... and Dango Ouattara from Brentford is all over these squads, just like that. It's like they're trying to manipulate the game or something πŸ€‘.

I'm not saying it's definitely some kind of conspiracy, but you can bet your bottom dollar there's more to this than meets the eye πŸ”

😎 just saw that some UK-based players made it into AFCON squad πŸ™Œ like Mohamed Salah and Bryan Mbeumo πŸ‘ those guys are talented 🀩 but kinda sad to see Benin, Comoros, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon are missing out on the fun πŸ˜” hope they get in next time 🀞 anyway can't wait for Dec 21 πŸ“† and all the action that comes with it πŸ’₯πŸ†
