San Francisco transformed into mock battlezone under Air Force’s ‘Exercise Sourdough’

US Air Force Conducts Large-Scale Urban Eviction Training in San Francisco

In a bizarre exercise, the US Air Force transformed San Francisco into a mock battleground, pitting its personnel against a range of law enforcement agencies and military units playing the role of enemy forces. The event, dubbed "Exercise Sourdough," brought together over 150 personnel from the Department of War to sharpen their Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) skills in an urban environment.

The operation, which took place from December 8 to 11, involved 40 airmen inserted into downtown San Francisco for a grueling 72-hour period. Their mission was to evade capture while being hunted by teams of opposition forces, including the city's Sheriff's Office, the US Coast Guard, SWAT officers, and other military squads.

The airmen were tasked with using limited resources to survive in the urban jungle, with instructions modeled after real-life communications used in actual evasion scenarios. For example, one instruction advised them to approach a black vehicle with a specific license plate, flash headlights once, and then open the trunk to extract an overnight bag and depart without talking to anyone.

The results were impressive, with only five of the 11 teams being caught by law enforcement agencies. The success rate was attributed to the realism of the exercise, which provided valuable training for both the airmen and the participating law enforcement agencies.

"The training value cannot be understated," said Master Sgt. Jeremy Campbell. "There are few frameworks of this magnitude within the Department of War."

The event marked an important milestone in the development of SERE skills among US Air Force personnel, who will now face increasingly complex urban evasion scenarios in the future. As one participant noted, the exercise provided a unique opportunity for both the airmen and law enforcement agencies to train together, sharing best practices and gaining valuable insight into each other's tactics.

With its high-stakes scenario and impressive participation from multiple law enforcement agencies, "Exercise Sourdough" demonstrated the commitment of the US Air Force to developing effective Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) skills in an urban environment. The results will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the future of military training.

i mean come on 40 airmen in downtown SF for 72 hours sounds like a wild rite of passage lol 🤯 but seriously its kinda cool that they got to test their survival skills against law enforcement i guess its good practice for them and helps the cops too gotta say though i hope no civilians were inconvenienced by the whole thing idk about exercise sourdough but its definitely not your average monday morning commute 🚂🏃‍♂️

I'm low-key concerned about this thing tho 🤔... like, what's next? Are we gonna turn New York into a giant playground for their "exercise" 😂? San Francisco is already struggling with gentrification and affordability issues - do they really need to make it feel like a war zone too? 💸

I get that they're trying to improve survival skills, but this feels more like a show than actual training 📺. And what about the civilians who got caught up in the chaos? Were they even warned or anything? 🤷‍♀️

I'm not sure if it's a good idea for the US Air Force to conduct large-scale evacuation exercises like this in populated areas. It sounds like a high-stress scenario that could easily get out of hand, with civilians at risk of being caught up in the chaos 🤔. I mean, can you imagine what would happen if someone from the public happened to be walking down the street during the exercise? Would they be treated as friendly forces or considered a threat? It's all about operational security and risk assessment.

The fact that only 5 out of 11 teams were caught by law enforcement agencies might be due to the training methods used, but it also raises questions about the realism and validity of such exercises. Are we really preparing our personnel for actual urban evasion scenarios or are we just creating a fantasy world? I think there's value in simulation training, but this has to be balanced with real-world concerns and safety protocols 🚨.

I mean, I guess it's kinda cool that they're practicing their evasive tactics in San Francisco... 🤔 But, honestly, who wants to be part of some crazy drill where you're being hunted by cops and SWAT teams? It sounds super intense! 😬 And what's up with the "black vehicle with a specific license plate" thing? Like, come on guys, it's just gonna make your job easier for them to catch you, right? 🚫

But, I guess it's all about preparing for the worst-case scenarios and stuff. The SERE skills are super important for the air force personnel, especially with the future being like, totally unpredictable. 💥 And it's awesome that they got to work together with law enforcement agencies to share tips and whatnot.

Still, can't help but feel a little uneasy about this whole thing... 🤷‍♂️ All these trained operatives running around downtown SF, feeling kinda like a real-life action movie. 😎

idk why the air force even did this like what if they just trained in deserts or mountains already? but i guess it's cool that law enforcement agencies got to participate too 🤷‍♂️. it's not every day you see them working together with the military, so that's a plus. and the fact that only 5 out of 11 teams got caught is pretty impressive, shows they must've been practicing hard 🏃‍♂️. i'm just worried about the civilians getting hurt in the process tho 💔. anyway, it's all about survival skills now, who knew urban warfare was gonna be a thing? 😅

idk why they chose SF tho 🤔, like isnt that just gonna be hard for ppl to cope w/ all the tech & noise? 📵🎉 i mean id be nervous trying 2 navigate thru haight ashbury w/ like a bunch of dudes in tactical gear 😂. anywayz, hope its actualy helpin tho. they shoulda done more decaf coffee & food trucks tho 🍵👌

OMG did they really use San Francisco as a mock battleground 🤯 like what if the real enemy was actually gonna be there? 😂 the part about flashing headlights to signal for help is soooo weird tho 💡 its not like that's how it works in real life lol 🚗. I dont get why the US Air Force thinks we need more urban evasion training when they're basically gonna invade someone elses city next 🤪 anyway, i guess its good that law enforcement agencies got to be part of it too 👮‍♂️

omg this is insane!! 🤯 I can kinda see why they'd wanna do a huge scale urban eviction training tho... it's not like SF's gonna stop 'em from takin' over 😉 idk how i feel about it, but if it helps our troops be better prepared for whatever comes next... then i'm all in 💪 lets hope its not just a bunch of unnecessary paranoia 🙏

😒 I'm really worried about this... Like, what's next? They're basically practicing war tactics in one of our major cities?! 🤯 It doesn't feel like we're learning to survive or evade anymore, it feels like we're just setting up for a potential disaster 😬. And who's to say that all these law enforcement agencies and the military are on the same page? What if this is just another way for them to flex their muscles and assert control over our communities? 🚔 I'm not buying it...

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this Exercise Sourdough thing 🤯... I mean, who needs that kind of training? It sounds like they're just creating more reasons for people to freak out in public 😅. Like, who wouldn't want a bunch of airmen running around downtown SF trying to escape from law enforcement? It's just so... intense 💥. But at the same time, I guess it's kinda cool that the US Air Force is willing to put itself through all this to prepare for real-life situations 🤝. The fact that they got some decent results out of it is definitely a plus 👍. Can't help but wonder what kind of scenarios they're preparing for though... wars in cities? natural disasters? 🌪️

OMG, can you believe this? 🤯🚨 Like, 40 airmen stuck in SF for 72 hours trying not to get caught by cops and SWAT teams is insane! 💥 But seriously, it's actually kinda cool that they're doing this exercise to improve their SERE skills. I mean, imagine being in a situation where you need to use those skills to survive... it gives me the chills 😅.

So, here are some stats:

* 95% of US Air Force personnel have basic knowledge of survival techniques
* 80% of law enforcement agencies participate in SERE training exercises annually
* The average duration of a real-life evasion scenario is 72 hours (no wonder they chose SF for this exercise 🙃)

I guess it's awesome that the event brought together multiple law enforcement agencies to share best practices and gain insight into each other's tactics. And, tbh, who wouldn't want to be part of an elite team with skills like this? 💪

By the way, have you heard about the effectiveness rate of SERE training exercises in real-life scenarios? 🤔 It's around 70-80% ( stats not available lol, but I found some research on it)

And one more thing: what do you think about the use of modern tactics and communication methods in this exercise? Should they be used in real-life evasion scenarios or is that too much info sharing? 🤷‍♀️

🤯♂️ I'm not sure how I feel about this "exercise" 🤔. On one hand, it's kinda cool that they're practicing survival skills in a real-world setting 💪. But on the other hand, isn't San Francisco like... a real city now? 😅 Can we just keep it to like, a simulation or something? It feels a bit excessive using an actual city as a training ground 🤷‍♂️. Not sure what the benefit is here... were they even causing any harm? 🤔 The fact that only 5 out of 11 teams got caught seems pretty low-key impressive 😐. Guess I'll just have to trust that they're doing this for a good reason 💯. Anyways, more questions than answers here 🤔

ummm so its literally 40 airmen just chillin downtown SF for 72 hours with no real escape plan lol whats next like them getting lost in Haight or something idk but i do think its kinda cool that they got to train w/ law enforcement agencies and share tips idk about the realism tho is it just a simulation of what actually happens or are these ppl actually expecting some sort of urban warfare? 🤔🚫

omg what's going on with the US Air Force 🤯 they're literally turning San Francisco into a war zone for some kinda survival training 🌆 exercise sourdough or whatever it's called is such a cool name btw.

i don't know how realistic this whole thing is but it sounds super intense. i can imagine being in those shoes and trying to evade capture while people are chasing me with flashlights and sirens 🚨♂️♀️🚨 it's crazy that they're doing this kinda simulation for air force personnel.

i'm a bit surprised though that they got away with not catching most of the teams... i guess it says something good about their training? also, it's dope to see law enforcement agencies participating in this kind of exercise too 🤝🌟

idk why they chose SF, its like, super touristy 🤣 what if some civilians got caught up in that? but i guess its all about preparing for the worst-case scenario... I mean, who doesn't want to play "urban survival" with the cops and SWAT teams 😂. Master Sgt. Jeremy Campbell is low-key the real MVP, all that training value is legit 💯 though. it's cool that they got law enforcement agencies involved too, probably helps them learn how to deal with potential threats in the city 🚔👮

omg 🤯 just heard about this crazy exercise that happened in San Francisco... like what even is this? 😂 so basically they took over the whole city for 3 days and made it a mock war zone... can you imagine being trapped in a real-life video game 🎮?! anyway, i'm all about self-defense and knowing how to survive, but i have to wonder if this is really necessary... like, are we really expecting urban warfare scenarios now? 🤔 and what's with the weird instructions about flashing headlights or whatever... does anyone actually do that in real life? 🚗 idk, maybe i'm just a wellness guru who doesn't understand military stuff 😅 but seriously, gotta give props to the airmen and law enforcement agencies for making this work together 💯

🤯 I'm not sure if it's a great idea for the US Air Force to be using San Francisco as a mock battleground though... like, we know they're just trying to prepare their personnel for survival scenarios, but I feel like there are better ways to do that without putting innocent civilians in harm's way 🙅‍♂️. And what about all the stress and anxiety it must have caused for people living in the city? 😬 I'm sure it was quite an experience for them.

On a more positive note, though, I think it's awesome that the Air Force is working with law enforcement agencies to share best practices and gain valuable insight into each other's tactics 🤝. That kind of collaboration can really make a difference in keeping everyone safe. And who knows, maybe this exercise will help prevent some real-life emergencies or natural disasters from happening in the future 💡.

Anyway, I'm curious to see how this experience will shape up for the airmen and law enforcement agencies involved... were they able to stay calm under pressure? 🤔

OMG, can you believe what just went down in San Francisco?! 🤯🚨 I mean, I know we've seen some weird military drills before, but this one takes the cake! The US Air Force transformed the whole city into a mock battleground for their SERE skills training 🌆💪. I'm not mad at it though, it's all about keeping our troops safe and prepared for anything that might come up 🤝.

I love how they got the law enforcement agencies involved too - it's like they're saying "Hey, we know you guys have this down pat, but let's see if our airmen can keep up!" 💥 It's all about sharing knowledge and expertise, right? 🤓 And hey, who knows, maybe one day this drill will be just as common as a Friday night coffee date ☕️.

But seriously, it's awesome that they were able to get over 150 personnel involved in the exercise - talk about teamwork! 💯 And with only five out of eleven teams getting caught, I'd say the US Air Force is on top of their game 🔥. Who knows what other crazy drills we'll see next? 😂 #SERETraining #USAirForce #LawEnforcementUnite

I'm not sure why they need to use real SF as a big ol' war zone 🤔🚨. Like, it's San Francisco for crying out loud! Can't they just train in some empty lots or something? And what's up with the whole ' urban jungle' vibe? We already have enough crazy stuff happening in SF without pretending we're in a real-life game of GTA 😂💥. Still, I guess if it means they can practice evading capture and all that jazz, I'm cool with it 👍
